Mongoose
I recently purchsed one of the ipsha war globes because it looks awesome. I was wondering if anybody has played a game with it or not? How effective of a ship is it in a league fleet?

It's a superb ship.

Essentially, it behaves like a Vree warship on crack cocaine: Super-manouvrability, decent speed, and very good guns.

It's damn tough: 68 hit points and a 5+ save which - unlike Dodge 5+ -can't be lost or bypassed. Hull 5 is still respectable, even if it's not heavy armour. At battle-priority games, armour-piercing weapons and beams tend to turn up in spades anyway, so it doesn't matter too much.

The combination of 30" range guns and SM 8" move is truly annoying, allowing you to 'range dance' pretty much any ship, reversing or flying sideways as needed.

If you do face something with forward guns you don't want to try it with, superb manouvreability lets you pac-man it 16" up the flanks, almost certainly putting you out of the forward arc of heavy warships.

The focuser cannon is a very nice weapon - doing about the same damage to most targets as a heavy laser (triple damage making up for the lack of cycling hits).

The ship has one key flaw: Interceptors. With no secondary guns of any sort, you have nothing to overwhelm interceptors with, and every triple damage attack dice you lose is a big chunk of the ship's firepower.

In a mixed league fleet, however, Falkosi or Star Snakes can do that nicely, as can Abbai massed-quad-battery ships - either (a) put it somewhere where its firepower covers as much of the table as possible and use it to finish things off once the interceptors are down to limited effectiveness or (b) go up the centre with it to try and get both focuser cannons in arc at once.

I was really looking forward to the release of the Ipsha fleet that was mentioned at the begining of the year. :(
