Invasion of the technicals

Mr Evil

Mongoose
ok i was lucky enough to grab a box of technicals at the open day, and in the game we played last time we found them both excelent fun and very usefull

with 3 available per squad in theory 3 was never going to be enough, so i ordered 2 more boxes, then they got pushed back to April.

2 choices moan and complain or have fun and knock some up.

i did the latter this evening inbetween watchin telly they have taken me an evening to do, couldnt start on them till kids went to bed.

any way here is a pic

hope you like, better pics when i get terrian out next

info on how i did them : http://www.evocommand.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1423#1423

Nicely done. And for some reason, now I've got "Rock The Casbah" playing over and over in my mind.

Personally, I still hold out hope for some kind of "Heavy" Technical at some point in the future - you know, just stick a surplus tank gun or other heavy boomstick rather than the machine gun and legroom for the squaddies.

But! Mongoose probably had a full plate already, so one thing at a time, eh?

Hadjis love their toyotas.... :D

(so gonna get in trouble with the Politically Correct police... dont care, Semper Fi Marines)

Very nice! This is also a good way to get a bit of variety in your technical squadrons, given that those things are usually just bashed up from whatever pickup / 4x4 happens to be available at the time.

by the way doese anbody know what old bears people carrier looks like, ie colours for example, as im gonna build it for my MEA :)

Why would you be in trouble? It's the Mongoose board that will get blamed for allowing it...... so carry on. Personally I don't think a wargames forum is the place for any sort of political comment (correct or not). And I can see problems coming for the game anyway..... particularly when the painted boxes of Fedayeen start to appear in more mainstream comic shops etc.....

I keep my views on this stuff to myself, the current situation in Iraq, Afghanistan etc.... has no bearing on Battlefield Evo (This is a game, people are actually getting killed there). If it ever does, expect the politically correct police to ignore you completely and go straight to the company making 'Arabs with guns'. I know there are lots available, but none you could ever buy pre-painted with descriptive rules and available in Travelling man etc.......

If the politically correct lobby can get Christmas banned in certain parts of England, how do you reckon it will fare against 'terrorist' models?

(My views on the situation are nothing to do with this, but just for info I was at a local serviceman's funeral three weeks ago, so I'm no bleeding heart).

Also, I know a couple of muslim gamers (both very British and fully supportive of what's happening over there).... should they be worried about coming on here?

Sorry to go on, but that's the thin end of the wedge and I don't think it's got any place in an open forum that anyone could read and use against the game/company/gamers in general.

As for the trucks.... I think I like them better than the originals :) Definately going to look better when you've got a swarm of trucks storming a position if they aren't all one of three colours.
Probably going to be mongoose colour variants too though?

well im workin on a few more at mo as well.

1 is a ford galaxy with gunenr in sunroof :) cant paint it till i know what colout old bears people carrier is though.

2nd is a hwmmv with a big gun facin backwards so it has a bigger gun, will use same rules as a normal technical but the 3D6 represnt a blast of shrapnel rather than a hail of fire ;)

others ! im pondring over some ideas at the moment, will look ace in some games though

Hmm.

I remember that "African Warlords" was shortlisted as a possibility for a new BF:E faction. As far as I am aware, such a military force would include makeshift conversions from civilian vehicles, just as the MEA does.

Do you suppose our friend byram here would be so quick to, upon having a gander at squadron of armed trucks driven by (say) Somali militiamen, exclaim "Wow, n*ggers love them their bling-bling!"

Just askin', dude. Just askin'.

That's odd. I hadn't heard of families being led off in handcuffs when police raids find christmas trees in their homes...

But I DID hear about some stores getting their employees to say "Happy Holidays" to customers rather than more specific yuletide salutations. A transparent ploy to appeal to a wider customer base, and therefore make more money, but some insistent on ginning up Culture War wherever they can for some reason.

If that's enough to get some people's hackles up, I can't imagine how they'd react to actually getting ACTUAL mistreated themselves, for example.

Wise up, boys. Mongoose's done a pretty good job of taking a sensitive topic and producing a product informed folks can play without feeling icky. Let's at least try to keep our reactionary politics and racial prejudice under our hats, shall we?

They need motorbikes :) Like in Command and conquer generals too.
in real world motor cycles are often ditched once they get to the area then move on foot, they are transport and nothing else id say.

Believe me, more than one local council banned all reference to Christmas from it's 'winter time' celebrations. I live in England, it happened :), read up on it. (smoking is banned in a lot of places, you nver see anyone led away in handcuffs over that either). Even Father's day is banned in a lot of schools for fear of offending one parent families (Mother's day less so for some reason).
(I'm a teacher, I've got the memo).
So if something that ridiculous can occur from PC lobbying, then imagine what a field day they'll have with this.
Leave it off the wargames forums, there's plenty of places it's more relevant.

Still cool though :)
Could be represented by two models..... let them move around quickly then ditch the bikes.
In real life they'd be shot from 3000ft up as soon as they stepped into the open.
I've seen footage of various militia riding pilion and shooting.
Looks good, probably can't hit anything though:)

No we generally refered to the Somalis as skinnies. Back on topic, Evil technicals are looking good.
