Hyperspace Staging

I read a mention on a thread about swooping onto the battlefield with a bunch of fighters. I assumed that the fighters in question were part of PL purchase and not from a carrier or ship that carries fighters. I came to this because I was under the impression that most ships can only have a single fighter flight launched before they enter the fighter. Is this wrong?

Can I scramble fighters in hyperspace - empty the bays in anticipation of the coming jump point and battle?

no you cannot.
the discussion you probably saw was me and katadder saying you should be able to!

Correct, you cannot launch fighters in hyperspace.

You can however, start with 1 flight deployed (or 2 from a Fleet Carrier) as normal, when in hyperspace. These flights can as normal, be put on "support" of their parent or another ship if you choose. So in this way you can have a ship with 4 flights in support flying through a jump point. They are on support for the whole turn though, so they can't break off or initiate dogfights or attack enemy ships until next turn.

Also remember that fighters move after ships, and as soon as the JP-creating ship enters the table, the JP closes. So if you start with flighters deployed in hyperspace, make sure they are on support of a ship (or a JP capable ship stays behind), else they can get stuck in hyperspace!

does it close straight away? when you open one to leave a battle it stays open for 3 turns, so surely it would hold it open long enough for fighters?

It closes immediately when the ship that created it, goes through. If this ship does not go through, then as many other ships and/or fighters as you like can go through. But as soon as the creating ship goes through, no more can pass. This applies to both entering and leaving the table.

Given what the Drakh Carrier and Mothership could then do -- you SO don't want to allow Hyperspace Staging. It could get really, really bad.

You just make an exception to the Drahk and say that Raiders AREN'T fighters (technically) and can't be deployed before the initial jump.

As for "honest to God carriers"... what's wrong with having half of their alotted fighters deployed? Granted, most carriers EXCEPT the Drahk have AJP... but for the ones that do... and for the cruisers with AJP that can carry fighters... I just don't see the big deal in something like that.

Really - The Centauri Carriers don't, I don't think EA do, many of the League don't.......most people don't have that much AJP?

Do you really want a bunch of t-bolts deployed off a posideon jumping in behind a your prefect? Personally I don't if I'm the Centauri

Anyone who thinks that the WS Carrier actually needs this kind of boost, frankly, needs their head examined.

Open jump gate, get AJP bomb effect, and 8 Skirmish (or so they say) level ships come in for an unopposed mugging. Yeah, this sounds fair and balanced.

Like Fox News.

Sadly from a fluff perspective I would really really like this...

but...

the points made above about jumping in behind someone with the kind of maneuverability and firepower many fighter/raiders posses would be just insane. Even the drazi could use this to scary effect with a Nightfalcon or two coming through. (sure sure, the sky serpents won't likely last the turn, but hey here's to dreams...)

Excuse me... I made a boo boo. I meant to say:

"Granted, most carriers EXCEPT the Drahk DON'T have AJP"

That's what I meant to say.

As for the Posedien, It doesn't have AJP... so no worries.

Again, the small number of ships that would benefit is negligable. Most of the ships with AJP are fast attack ships that don't even have fighters... so I really don't see the point in not letting a White Star jump in with it's Nials out... because like someone said, they can't do anything anyway.

One of 2 things can happen 1) the opponet doesn't consider your firepower or the speed of your fighters and he loses the ones he had pre-deployed 2) you don't kill as many (or any at all) and carriers FINALLY have a tactical advantage.

Also, considering the Centauri have ships like the Dargan, Covran, Maximus and the Primus (all with 360 degree LoF TL Twin Arrays or AF Partical Cannons) I would say we have the least to worry about...

Well....the Whitestar only carries one flight which starts deployed so the whitestar can already do it...=p

Sorry..had too...
