Human(oid) Hit Locations

RuneRiter

Mongoose
I'm sure that I can remember that in the old(er) RQ's the abdomen (as a hit location) indicated the hips (rather than the belly) and that the abdomen reduced to negative (or worse) hp's meant that both legs were knackered.

I've been trying to visualise a NPC in a chain shirt (Chest, arms and abdomen) with chain trews (legs) and there is a big unarmoured gap around the groin area. Now I can cope with the vision whilst imagining an amazon warrioress (Red Sonia like) but the thought of an hairy barbarian makes my blood run cold.

I'd say that a chainmail shirt (chest and arms) combined with chainmail trews (abdomen and legs) would cover all eventuallities and possibly also save my sanity (or at least stop the nightmares).

Anybody else got any thoughts on the subject?

In RQ3 the Abdomen terminated "just above the hip", so it was, in fact, the belly.

I am very unsure that something like the "chainmail shirt" separated from the "chainmail skirt" did actually exist, so your standard chainmail armor would go some length down the leg, generally down to the knee. Mail trews are intended to be worn under such a skirt, and partially overlap with it. At least this is how this armor is depicted in most mediaeval illustrations. This, however, is not what is stated in the armor piece description in the rulebook. In any case your nightmare about the bare-butted barbarian should never come true  .

In defense of the hairy barbarian, he wouldn't be hairy for long if he wasn't wearing a tunic and trews underneath all that chain. Think of midievil bikini bare.
