There's a vexing question.

Start off by playing through, perhaps solo, a number of test barrages against different defences, the barrage system takes a bit of getting used to, and a certain amount of adjustment and addition to get a likely result.

A lot of virtual ink was spilt on this topic a few months ago on this forum, suggest you back track through the index and read the relevant threads, there are some very good ideas and clarifications.

Also, remember that the Barrage rules are NOT supposed to be used for less than 10 dice. The rules specifically state that they don't work well down at the lower end of the dice range.

If you have a 5 dice Barrage, then just roll the 5 attacks rather than use the Barrage rules.

The % hit column is the important one. The 5-dice, 10-dice etc are just quick reference values (so if you happen to have a 55 dice barrage, for example, you can figure out what such and such percent is without needing any mental arithmetic
