Mongoose
I'm wondering how many people have taken the ACTA system and built homebrew settings for it. I'm aware that people have used it to model Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, etc... but what about material that didn't pre-exist?

I'm trying to point out that Mongoose (or us fans) can always build custom universes for ACTA games, and publish them as PDF minigames with a counter sheet. The only thing I imagine is totally verboten is reprinting the rules for ACTA.

All you really need is the ACTA rulebook; the PDFs serve as fluff and fleet lists. It's a fine system, why not let it expand more? Heck, I imagine the system could be used to model aircraft battles as well as space/naval battles.

Some of this has already been done with the fan rules for other sci-fi universes and fan-expansions on the B5 universe. It is not without precedent.

Of course, I suppose I should ask what Mongoose's elite cadre of lawyer-ninjas say about this?

There once was this guy, called Lieutenant Leon Johnson or something.......

But that wasn't so much as homebrewed, more of created on an industrial scale. Still you cannot knock him for having huge ideas.

No, but you can knock him for copyright breach. He was planning to sell his "product" which was basically ACtA with a few mods and new fleet stats and fluff.

@Darzoni: Mongoose will only object and call in the lawyer squad if you try to sell it or make money or other form of profit from it. If it's entirely for friends usage, or freely distributed, then you're fine. At least, thats how I undestand it.

As far as I remember he was also horribly abusing the SST game as well. I guess that as long as you don't try and make money out of it you should be fine.

It could be interesting to see what comes out of their OGL wargaming idea.
