High Guard Designs Questions

Question on designs:

In the weapons it states that a weapon at higher tech levels get bonus upgrades. For example a beam laser (normally tech 9) at tech 12 or higher gets three upgrades. This I understand.

Problem is that for example in the design of Cruiser (HG pg 119) it shows a Triple Particle Beam-11 with Accurate, High Yield and Triple Beam Laser-10 with Accurate, High Yield. The problem is that Accurate is a double upgrade and High Yield is a single upgrade.

For the Particle Beam-11 (tech 8 base) this is fine. But for the Beam Laser-10 (tech 9 base) this is not fine. It should only have one upgrade (probably the High Yield). I have seen this through out both HG and Traders and Gunboats.

Can anybody tell me what the deal is? Or am I not understanding the rules right?

I posted this earlier but with no response on another post. This is really bugging me. I am kind of a stickler for design rules. :x

Hmmm. I'm assuming that it is a typo. Best guess (and easiest fix) is to assume they meant the same tech (11) for the beam laser - does the cost reflect tech 10 or 11 ?

I've seen it though out both HG and T&G. For example the Fiery-Class Gunned Escort (pg 112) has Beam Laser-9 x3 (high yield). I just thought it was wierd that I was the only one to notice this. Thought maybe I just didn't understand the rules.

Ex. Destoryer Escort (Patrol Variant) (pg 108) had Beam Laser-9 (accurate) x3. I could go on and on.

The way I understand the rules if a ship hase Beam Laser-9 then it would not have any upgrades since this the new base tech for Beam. But I'm wondering if they are using the old tech. Which since I have replaced it in my core rulebook with 9 (according to HG) I can't remember.

Evening cbrunish,

Here are the TLs for the weapons listed in the core book:
Turret
Pulse Laser 7; CT:HG 7
Beam Laser 7; CT:HG 7
Particle Beam 8; CT:HG 14 & 15
Missile Rack 6; CT:HG 7
Sandcaster 7; CT:HG 7

Bay
Missile Bank 6; CT:HG 50-ton 10
Particle Beam 8; CT:HG 50-ton 10
Fusion Gun 12; CT:HG 50-ton 12
Meson Gun 11; CT:HG 50-ton 15

CT: Book 2 Starships only lists turret weapons without, that I can find anyway, listing a TL.

Once I've got a good feeling about ship design in the core book I'll move to HG.

They used the cost for TL +2, so looks like it was based on the old TL of 7 for the beam laser. But Even then only one upgrade rather then two upgrades or one upgrade and reduced weight.

With both books being released together this could have easily happened, the change for Beam Laser to TL 9 may have been a late change.

The cost is for Beam Laser-12. Probably based on the old TL 7 base from the core rule book. I disagree probably meant TL-12 not 11, 11 would only allow 2 upgrades, not the 3 upgrades used (well, 2 but one's a double).
