Hi, I will be getting the Starter Box soon and I was wondering what is the best way to paint the bugs and cap troopers,

Depending on supplies i was thinking of that colour changing spray paint for the bugs, but other than that i have no idea how to paint or in what scheme i should paint my models,

I ain't getting the box till christmas so I've got a while to figure out how I want them to look.

Really though, MI look good with a dark green armor and grey pants, metal weapons, drybrushed a little with some white to bring out detail or some yellow-green to look like they have been sprayed by bug-blood. I'm actually thinking about painting my MI like DAK or the marines in Iraq. Dark tan armor with a lighter tan cloth. My rational is almost every SST-specific table i've seen is a craggy desert like the movie, and any military with good sense would uniform accordingly.

Bugs are a little more difficult. You could start with a black basecoat, do the tops in a marroon or dark red, and highlight with some yellow lines. Pretty much with bugs you can do whatever you want, but it looks best when there is a general theme for the whole army.

I would suggest painting them how they looked on the movie before you get any more creative... Really, all ya gotta do is put down your base color, then go at it... Well, it worked for me anyway

I now control me own awsome light troopers (untill we get the klendathu campaign, we're usin powersuit rules for em)

As I am lazy, I just copy over my post from another thread:

For painting your bugs I suggest trying a special color sheme and not these ordinary anyone-has patterns. I remember someone having Ladybeetle Bugs here, they are indeed an eyecatcher.
It's up to you whether it's shining bright (like my yellow-red ones) or more an obvious camouflage (desert yellow, rock grey, moosgreen-earthbrown).

You can even do them in bright shining blue if they live on a desolate, dry planet with vast kobalt silica deserts.
Of course, if you are doing something such special you also need to build appropriate terrain.

hehe, i love the way you quoted me from another post in antisipation to my answer to this post,,grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr you.

gave me the giggles though :D

but yeah basicly

grab a brush some paint and see what happens

I vote for Cobalt Blue!
(Will surely look cool - and you will never forget to activate your bugs on a typical gaming board ;))

I've done my PAMI in standard TV colours - the Green I did by progressively drybrusing Catachan green, then dark Angels green, then goblin green. The black sections were painted chaod black and then drybrushed fortress grey.

For the LAMI I did the amrour with progressive drybrushes of a dark grey I mixed together from 50/50 shadow grey and chaos black, then shadow grey, then codex grey. for the sleeves and trousers I did drybrushes of Codex grey followed by fortress grey.

A mate of mine is doing his MI in this nice deep red colour, but I think he's just mixing it up and applying it as a base coat.
