Help! I'm a Marauder Addict

Goldwyrm

Mongoose
Ok..so I've got some Marauders. I've built some. I've bought some that remain undone. I've got a few more off Ebay. I'm now at an official count of 28 Marauders.

Now I'm stuck on how to set up my TO&E. For some reason I'm wanting to have my SST collection to be based on a TO&E first and then for each battle I can draw upon specific companies or platoons for the force mix. It creates some background feel and not just points equal X type of models in a game. I do plan on using all of these some time next year in a large game.

Here is what I have. Currently there are two paint schemes- Desert Camo (DC) and what I'm calling SICON Green (SG). Then there are assembled and only black primed or unassembled ones I'll refer to as undecided (U)

6 Ape Marauder (DC)
3 Chickenhawks w/FT (DC)
1 Chickenhawk w/claws (DC)

5 Ape Marauder (SG)
2 Chickenhawks w/claws (SG)

5 Ape Marauders (U)
1 Bigfoot Marauder (U)
2 Chickenhawks w/claws (U)
1 Chickenhawk weapons not built (U)
2 Nighthawks (U)

At the moment, I'm considering this organized as at least a 2 platoon company with a Marauder Captain. I wouldn't have a squad be larger than 2-3 Marauders. Some of the above I'd also like to mix into 1 or both of my two PAMI companies (a green and brown company) as integral squad assets or officers, perhaps 5 +/-1 of the total above.

:?: If you were me, how would you organize the above???

I might be buying 2 more Marauders to get to a nice round 30 in number. Feel free to add in 2 of any variety in this exercise.

Thanks!

I'd say pick up three more, (M8, M9, and M9C) so you have even numbers in each squad. With 31 you could have a Captain, and three platoons each consisting of an LT, NCO, and two squads of four. each Platoon gives you two squads with a specific function, while the Captain gives you the flexibility to add an additional squad from whichever platoon you need for that particular mission

Captain M8 (U)

1st Platoon-Assault (U)
Lt M8
Sgt M8
Cpl M8C
Pvt M9 w/ Claws
Pvt M9 w/ Ft

Lt M8
Sgt M8
Cpl M8
Pvt M9 w/ Claws
Pvt M9C

2nd Platoon-Fire Support (DC)
Lt M8
Sgt M8
Cpl M8
Pvt M9 w/FT
Pvt M9 w/FT

NCO M8
Sgt M8
Cpl M8
Pvt M9 w/FT
Pvt M9 w/Claws

3rd Platoon-Air Defense (SG)
Lt M8
Sgt M8
Cpl M8
Pvt M9 w/ Claws
Pvt M9C

NCO M8
Sgt M8
Cpl M8
Pvt M9 w/ Claws
Pvt M9C

Reborn wanted a force liek this.
25, thats just mental!
But we all know, mentality prevails!

No idea what to do with them other than beat up my skinnies.

shotgun-toting chipmunk- That's the kind of TO&E I'm looking for. Thanks. If I go with that I might peel off the 4th in each squad for inclusion in my PAMI squads but that is the type of structure I'm looking for.

Anyone else have any ideas on how they'd organize this Marauder mix?

I do plan on using all of these for a game early next year. I'd like to try a large group game or convention game of all Marauders and Exosuits against lots and lots of Warrior Bugs.

In my experience 3-man marauder squads are just a little to fragile, even if you use corporals. A fourth marauder significantly reduces the risks of becoming combat ineffective. For TO&E purposes, I'd say keep them assigned to the Marauder platoons, but allow for individuals or pairs to be tasked for assistance with other units in the battalion. Remember, dedicated marauder platoons are generally used in the most dangerous/severe situations. A full-blown marauder company would probably be trained to integrate with other units at all levels to ensure they are effective force multipliers in any level of engagement.

I was playing around and thought I might go with the following TO&E shown below in a pictorial format. Corporal upgrades are not shown.

I've pulled out two Marauders for Gossard and Doc in my Roughneck squad.

I'll eventually pick up another 5 Marauders, noted in red. Since a company can be two platoons, I will first be painting the incomplete platoon to bulk out the existing green platoon and when I have enough models I can cut them loose to form their own platoon.

I'll have to see if Shotgun-toting Chipmunk is correct about small squads being fragile. It's a good reason to organize a local game and play it out.

Very cool chart! Very cool little marauders, look like they'd be useful battle rep maps.

I like the way it's organised but i would have more big foots available if needed. It's a killer piece of kit. I use my marauders (a rather small 6 of them  ) to support a pathfinder or cap platoon so i don't know how they fare on their own but i look forward to battle rep with your company in action - thats alot bugs too!!
