Hell Creek Sanitarium opens Foreven Sector borders

Mongoose
Hell Creek Sanitarium is proud to announce its forthcoming line of Foreven Sector products for the Mongoose Publishing edition of Traveller!

The Foreven Sector has long remained a hotbed of intrigue, discovery, and exploration. All of the major races have been drawn to this sector bordering the Spinward Marches. Merchants and corsairs alike have braved all four Frontier Wars to stake their claims or break the name of a competitor here. What will you discover when you cross the border?

Foreven Sector web developers Per-Olof Bergstedt, James Kundert, Dylan Lee, and Peter Gray have graciously given us permission to use their material in our products, in addition to our own developments in the sector. Book 0: A Sector Overview will be forthcoming this year, followed by books detailing the worlds of various powers, including the Mnemosyne Principality, Orinth Pactworlds, Avalar Consulate, and the Aorlakht Covenant.

The Foreven Sector line marks just the beginning of Hell Creek's Traveller products, which will include adventures, campaign books, and gameplay aids.

Hell Creek Sanitarium is a gaming PDF publishing house based in Omaha, Nebraska, started in 2008 by Norman Pavlov and Dale Meier.

It is absolutely great that you build your sector book on the work of BeRKA, GipsyComet, Dylan Lee and Peter Gray! :D It was a phenomenal cooperative effort, as well as some of the best of all internet-based Traveller fan fiction (B.A.R.D. is another old favourite of mine).

Good luck!

Good timing as well, as we are currently detailing other sectors in and around the Marches, so you will have a huge swathe of space as a playing area!

In Forever, its all good. But what happens in Foreven stays in Foreven...

Indeed. Let's hope for the sake of the Marches and surrounding sectors that whatever threat ravaged and fled the Far Colonies stays in Foreven.

Well yeah. If whatever it is gets over a border its going to bother either the Zhos, the Impies, or whatever those crazies in The Beyond are calling themselves this year, and none of them flinch at stopping by in a "Thank You" Dreadnought to make sure it never happens again...

Thats cool...I'm looking forward to the book/.pdf. I've been a fan of the Zhodani Base site for a long time. It will be cool to see some of the material in a semi-official print kind of format.

Someone on Citizens of the Imperium was looking for Zhodani capital ships. Maybe one of the .pdfs could have some larger size Zhodani warships.

Oh yeah, ship books are definitely being considered as part of the line-up. They're further down the road, however. :D

While I'm here, I'm going to reiterate a post I just recently made to the CotI forums for everybody's understanding:

I can see by the type of responses we've received here and on the CotI boards that there are a lot of questions and misunderstandings regarding the nature of the license and our future products. With that being the case, I'm going to post our FAQ regarding the Foreven license so things get straightened out.

What is the Hell Creek Traveller Universe?

The Hell Creek Traveller Universe (HCTU) is a variation on the OTU, following the history of the OTU up to the year 1105. In the HCTU, the Spinward Marches and even parts of Foreven Sector are bracing for the Fifth Frontier War.

Overall, Hell Creek Sanitarium is firmly set on portraying events in Foreven Sector under the aegis of both the Traveller and Foreven Sector licensing agreements.

What is Foreven Sector?

Foreven Sector is a region of the OTU which Marc Miller and other members of the original Traveller community left open as a “player preserve”. In short, this area was left undetailed so that players and GMs would have a region of space to customize and call their own. Over the years, some individuals have published their own versions of Foreven Sector online. However, all of these are considered non-canon by Marc Miller and the Traveller community at large.

With the release of the second draft of the Mongoose Traveller Developer’s Pack, Foreven Sector was opened up to licensed development by companies looking to produce adventures and other material set in the Foreven Sector, starting in the 1,105th year of the Third Imperium and advancing through the 1116 and 1126 eras (the Rebellion and Hard Times eras, respectively). Hell Creek’s versions of these two eras will be defined differently from how GDW defined them; most likely dealing with the aftermath of the Fifth Frontier War and the hard times that follow.

Will Hell Creek’s publications become part of the established canon?

In a word, no.

The long answer is this: Because Foreven Sector was originally created as a sandbox for gaming groups, and because of the nature of the license, Hell Creek’s version of Foreven Sector will not be the de facto “canon” version of Foreven Sector.

Thank you for your interest in our company and future products. We look forward to hearing from you regarding what you want to see and your adventures in our version (and other versions of Foreven Sector). :D

This is the spirit my original material was written in as well. The goal back when I wrote my Foreven material was to contribute to a "Foreven Layer Cake". Every subsector and thus every world would have a couple different versions, with little context beyond the subsector level (and the established sector-wide context of the Zhodani and Avalar), so someone who wanted to run in the sector could pick and choose on a subsector by subsector basis from the Layer Cake and have clusters of worlds that related to each other, but not have to follow one author's vision across the entire sector (particularly since no one author was likely to cover the entire sector). Berka's site does a little of this, and with the HC material we get another layer. Everyone publishing in Foreven adds to the Layer Cake...

Yummie Cake!

I like the idea, and I also think it was what MWM and Mongoose wanted. Layers of data (some conflicting but that's OK). It is a playground for everyone to add to the OTU, even if unofficially.

I look forward to what you all publish.

Hmmm... Can't seem to be able to find a url for HCS... could someone paste a link to it? (or the ordering page/home...)

Many thanks and take care

Are you going to have print options with lulu.com? I think that would be fantastic. I don't know the logistics.

thanks

So, what's the current status? I'm sure many people are looking forward to seeing this book develop - although, having gone through the process of contributing to a Classic Traveller sector book myself, I know that it won't be a quick or easy task. I'd really like to see how all the old fan contributions, especially BeRKA's work, will fit into the fully-realised sector.

Slow, but steady. I'm (re)learning Photoshop and working on getting together a design bible to keep continuity issues down to a minimum. At the same time, I'm having to share my computer with my wife as her own laptop is dead. We'll get that last issue fixed soon, however, once she has enough money saved up to buy a netbook.

The hunt for material and contributors is also afoot. :D It's just a matter of getting through to the interdicted worlds and looting the sites of the Ancients... Oh, wait, did I say that out loud?
