HD for Monsters and Animals?

Back in the old days of AD&D, monsters used d8 as their Hit Die.

Is that still true in Conan? It seems so, but I look at some of the hit points and think, "Man, they sure rolled high."

I don't see anything in the rule book that specifically states that monsters and animals use d8 HD. I'm just trying to clarify.

Generally all monsters and beasts use d8's, if they use anything else it will be in their stat block and for some things like undead they always use d12's. The hp's for npcs are always 'averaged' and with no con bonus restriction it does make some of those 20hd beasties pretty damn buff. But that's what massive damage is for.

Is that averaged at 4.5 for d8 or 4?

You jest, but this is exactly what I was talking about. I'm sure their "averaging" didn't consider 4.5. As I said at the beginning, there are different definitions of averaging.

And, as I demonstrated several posts before I was "corrected" and told I was "wrong" over and over, I know how to average a d8 for a 4.5 result just as well as everybody else.

People seem to ignore the type of averaging spoken of here, though, with the monster's HD.

(Plus the info that HD is averaged without regard to CON bonus is bogus, from looking at the HD, Hit Points, CON, and the monsters in the back of Conan 2E. It's not clear what method is being used....which is why I originally asked if the d8 was used as the general monster HD.)
