I had Norwegian kids in costumes ringing the doorbell several times earlier, and though they didn't speak a word of English, they were all giggly and happy, and provided me an excellent way of getting rid of my last kroner before my flight home tomorrow.

"Sorry, no sweets. Um...do you kids need some money, though?"

Hehe, that's a pretty new "tradition" in Norway. Only started up about 3-4 years ago. But, give any kids a reason to ask for free candy and they're likely to grab hold of it.
