I have been playing GURPS for about 6 years. Its really great generic system, but me and my players needed something fresh (with quicker combat system...). Before GURPS we all enjoyed Call of Cthulhu's so we decided to find system with mechanic similar to it - we choose Legend. We have never been playing RQ, pure BSR or so on...
We are after few Legend's sessions and here comes 2 suggestions form PURE NEW LEGEND's PLAYERS:
- some of rules are only mentioned, as they should be well known for all (and probable there are but only fo RQ players)
- some aspects of gaming, which are left for GM's creations should even have few basic rules
- some rules are VERY detailed while others are SO MUCH BROAD and OPEN - thats very confusing for new player.
And now, what Legend could learn from GURPS:
- GURPS core rulebooks are much much much more better prepared for starting players - are well-arranged, important principles are repeated in different sections (to avoid missing them), and there are no unspoken aspects of the game
- in GURPS when something is left to GMs decision its clearly written - also we don't need rules for everything but we got rules how to create everything
So why I play Legend at all? Well I think Legend is much better ballanced, rules are simpler but still realistic, actions much faster but still well detailed, creating characters are sooooo quick and still flexible. Legend just need to learn how to open for bread audience, not only for earlier RQ (and so) players... And about 30-50 pages more for core rulebook (for a better explanation, and adding a few rules).
