Gropos

Talisinbear

Mongoose
I know Gropos not a Mongoose product, but since this is B5 site, can anyone tell me if the game is any good? How many pieces do you need to effectively play?

thanks

As far as I recall it was a TT like 40K with large armies in mind.
I don't know if you could still get minis as the game only was out shortly before AOG closed doors.

I don't know, personally...

There are SO many ground level games already. Does Mongoose really want to start competing with the likes of AT-43, WH40k and even their own SST and BFE systems?

Perhaps if they just transfered their existing engine with a set of B5 army lists... Hmmm... That could be cool... NO! What am I thinking!?! I have too much to paint already!?!

Honestly, if they want a successful ground level game for the B5 universe, they should probably stick to smaller, squad level games as this would better represent the boarding actions that take place in the show. Entire ground level wars wouldn't be all that realistic, IMO, when you have Mass Drivers to cleanse an entire planet of it's defenses.

they did start one, and even released some figures, but it then got put on a back burner while they did other stuff. .

Mass drivers are outlawed by interstellar treaties...

Ground battles do take place, we know from the episode GROPOS where we see EarthForce troops and vehicles in action. We also see Centauri infantry in a couple of episodes on the Narn homeworld. It's not the focus of the series, but ground battles are mentioned several times. EarthForce fought the Minbari on the ground many times.

Besides, we have planetary assault missions that involve troops fighting it out on the surface of planets, it's just massively simplified.

As Mathew stated on the Planet Mongoose Blog, the BFE rules are going to be an open content wargaming system (ala d20) for people to use. They are already using it for the updated SST, the BFE World War, and BFE Modern rules. It shouldn't be very difficult to implement a B5 variant. They already have some miniatures. It's not a very big stretch.

They never released any for sale from Mongoose that I heard of, I'd have bought them if they had.

Those were done as an accompaniment for the RPG, not for GROPOS or Mongoose's replacement for it.

I have all those you mention above.

I knew that, but they would easily work for Gropos, and I'm sure these are what he was talking about. The only ones that I would think really wouldn't work well are the Centauri Royal Guard as I'm sure a standard Centauri unit wouldn't wear their Class A/Ceremonial uniforms. The rest are what I would assume are the standard military uniforms.

yeah, they are the ones I meant, thought they were released to be part of the game, my bad

The original GROPOS game was made for 10mm minis, and the game announced by MP also seemed to be designed for 6-10mm minis, so.. they would not easily work for it. B5:Evolution - now, this would work well with them ;-)

I was able to pick up some of the infantry last year for a special project. After a few teasers in S&P though they've put off B5 "ground pounders" for awhile.
