G'Paal's Trafalgar: A Battle Report from GenCon UK

Court Jester

Mongoose
Thats right, this isn't a thread about how to fix the game, or my suggestions on what Mongoose should be doing with P&P. There are no "helpful" discussions about game balance or how we think our favourite race needs pimping.

Its just some pictures (not great pictures mind, but you should be able to see what is going on) and a quick batrep.

So... As a gaming club we (the Sad Muppet Society) were asked to come along and host a game of ACTA as well as run some participation games at GENCON UK this year. So we thought, "why the hell not".

The first day we decided to throw as many ships on the baord as possible and see what happened. So we had a mamoth game with the Narn (commanded by Admiral G'Paal) facing off against the Dilgar (Commanded by Admiral Vin'tur).

I don't know what the points value of the game was or if the points were equal...

The Narn fleet consisted of...
1 x Ka'Bin'Tak
1 x Bin'Tak
1 x G'Vrahn
2 x G'Quan
2 x Var'Nic
2 x Dag'Kar
2 x Ka'Toc
2 x Rongoth
3 x G'Karith
1 x T'Loth

The Dilgar fleet consisted of (I think)...
1 x Mishakur
1 x Mankhat
1 x Wahant
3 x Tikrit
6 x Targrath
4 x Omelos
1 x Garasoch
4 x Ochlavita
2 x Jashakar Vi

The game was played on a big table (exact demensions unknown) and fleets deployed 24" on to the table but no closer than 12" to their own table edge.

I have added the major beam attacks onto the picture to liven them up and give you some idea of what was targeting what. Generally the explosions mean 'dead' or 'very heavily damaged'.

The game took roughly from 11am until 5.30pm to play and that is with a hefty lunch break and relaxed gameplay.

Deployment

The Dilgar deploy in 4 Pentacons decideding against using the secenry. The Narn however deploy behind the cover of gas clouds.

Turn 1
Admiaral G'Pall said:
"The Narn Regiem expects that every Narn shall do his duty"
Turn 1 saw the Dilgar fleet speed forwards eager for battle whilst the Narn battle line casually broughts is guns to bare on the appraoching ships.

After exchanges of long range beam / energy mine / ion torpedo / anti-ship missile attacks the Dilgar had almost crippled a Ka'toc on the far flank in return loosing a couple of Tikrits and one or two ther ships were damaged or knoscked out.

Turn 2
"Take care of my dear Tzs'am, Ka'Dee, take care of poor Tzs'am". He paused then said very faintly, "Kiss me, Ka'Dee". This, Ka'Dee did, on the cheek. G'Paal then said, "Now I am satisfied. Thank God I have done my duty".
Turn 2 saw the fleets come to grips with each other, secondary batteries on both sides now getting into range. The Dilgar were let down by a lack of big primary weapons, their bolters generally failing to do much to the Hull 6 Narn Dreadnoughts.

The Dilgar centre began to crumble as the Ka'Bin'Tak and the Bin'Tak both fired extreamly deadly Laser and Mag guns shots crippling both the big Dilgar Warships opposing them. The Ka'Bin'Tak took a 6-5 critical this turn as well as a bridge and engines hit but just shrugged off the damage.

2 Narn ships were destroyed on the far flank after they strayed too close to 3 Targraths.

Turn 3
The writing was on the wall... The Dilgar centre had been smashed and the flanking forces had failed to have much of an impact thus far.

Turn 3 saw the Ka'Bin'Tak face off against the far Dilgar Pentacon of 3 Targraths, an Oclavita and Jashakar as well as the Mankaht (6 ships in total). In a gut-wrenching display of firepower it set the Warship adrift and ready to explode as well as ripping the heart out of the Pentacon (2 destroyed and 1 crippled).

Meanwhile the Bin'Tak was taking an absolute beating but sailed through the strom of bolter fire and gave as good as it gets. It survived the turn a few damage poinst away from being crippled.

The Narn ships were able to start setting up withering crossfires now and the Dilgar ships could not escape wherever they moved to. They took heavy losses whilst crossing through the Narn battle line.

Turn 4
It was simply a case of mopping up.

The remaining Dilgar ships were targeted and taken out, one Omelos survived near crippled and stood down.

At the end of the game the table looked like thus...

We will be running smaller games over the next 2 days at GenCon UK in room 105 (the Gaming Club Network).

Pop along and say hi if you are in the area.

Super stuff, would love to have a big game like this, but with um, 3 players, 2 of whom would rather play cards, it's unlikely to happen :-(

That's 15 Battle for the Narn. Big fleet.

And 14.75 Battle for the Dilgar.

Not too badly off and I don't think a skirmish point of Thoruns or another Ochlavita would have made any difference.

Go Narn!

That probably doesn't, 1.5 pts in 5 pt game makes really hard to win.
My maths were off one day & cost me a lot in a campaign. Almost won to.

Very cool dude. It's good to see the Narns get a solid win, they always seem to get a bit of a spanking down here. Except when we play the blockade scenario, then it always seems to be a case of "Why won't that T'loth die!
