Got the revised edition

Mage

Mongoose
WEll, I was mailed this the other day and have had not the chance to play with it yet.
I am impressed. I just need to consider which faction to get once I have money. I already have two vree miniatures, one earth alliance ship, and a fledgling abbai fleet, but nothing serious.
I love the idea how you have the counters and can play with whatever you want before you get metal.

Just a question: are there official 'proper' army lists out yet?

I am considering getting: ISA, Drazi, more vree, minbari, shadows, or vorlons, maybe drahk.

Is it better to collect one fleet, or do you find its better to get only a few models to start with? I intend to demo with friends iwth real models, but having the counters first lets me know a bit more in advance what ot use.

Your army list is your fleet list. You need to pick ships you want from that.
Sky Full of Stars is highly recommended since it has a lot more information, and new ship variants.

I find its better to stick to a couple of fleets, so you have some variety but also a decent fleet choice in each one.

I'd porbably definetly go for ISA, and whenI get a better grasp of rules maybe vorlons or shadows, with all the ocmplicated 'ancients' rules. How many models would an average fleet in a game consist of? About ten?

The commonly used standard for a pick-up game seems to be 5pt Raid - for ISA, typically this is:

5 x Whitestars so 5 models

The good news about ISA is that you can probably use all the miniatures you already have as well (EA, Abbai and Vree) to supplement the ISA (as the ISA are allowed 1 Fleet Allocation Point as allies) and provide variety.

Sweet, so I have an excuse to buy iniatures from different ranges and call it 'one' army. Freakin' Awesome!

Don't hit me with a newspaper anyone but I have been thinking of Drahk, but I may convert the models.

Drakh are an interesting fleet though I wouldnt really recommend them as your first fleet, theyre something of a finess fleet (so too are ISA really but theyre a bit more forgiving, Drakh tend to win big or lose big in my experience).

Before you start buying minis though Id highly recommend Sky Full of Stars and Armageddon as that will bring you fully up to date with rules and fleet lists. You will also need the Dilgar and or Drakh books to play those races as they are seperate from the main fleet lists and have their own special rules.

While I would agree with Locutus, a note of caution, its not necessary to get all the rulebooks to play the game.

If you'r happy with the revised edition then *play* with it first, try out all the fleets with counters and then, if you're still into the game, consider getting models and advanced rules.

Ok so I didn't follow any of that advice myself and went straight out to buy fleets before ANY of the rules but hey...maybe I could have saved myself a little cash if I had

Hello all, I hope its ok to do a little thread hijhacking (or how its called :D )

I just ordered the revised edition and wanted to know if there are any scenarios in it? Or do i have to get the starter set as well for some small battles?

My game store doesnt have the SFoS Supplement available at the moment so i will have to wait for that a little.

Cheers
