German Torpedo boats...

Has anyone cooked up stats for German "T-class" torpedo boats? I was hoping ships of the "destroyer escort" class such as these would be included in the recent write up on costal forces, but there were not.

Very awkward one hit wonders I guess. Too short for a beam on bonus perhaps? Treat as a flotilla? You also have the US PT boats and the British MTBs

I've done a E-Boat stat sheet if you are interested? PM me with your email address and I will send it to you as a word document.

Digger.

How about these?

US “DE” Class Destroyer Escort / Royal Navy “Captain" Class DE

Speed 4”
Turning 3
Target 6+
Armour 2+
Damage 2/1
Crew 5/2
Special Trails: Agile, Sub Hunter, Radar

Weapon / Range / AD / DD / Special

Hedgehog / 4” / 4 / - / Slow loading, automatic kill
Secondary Armament / 8” / 1 / 1 / Weak
AAA / 5” / 1 / - /
Depth Charges / 3” / 4 / 2 / Slow loading

German Type 35/37 Class Torpedo Boat (T1-T21)
(NB: These stats would probably be OK for the 1923/24 classes as well)
Speed 7”
Turning 3
Target 6+
Armour 2+
Damage 2/1
Crew 5/2
Special Trails: Agile

Weapon / Range / AD / DD / Special

Port / Starboard Torpedoes / 10” / 3 / 3 / AP
AAA / 5” / 1 / - /
Depth Charges / 3” / 4 / 2 / Slow loading

German Type 39 Class Torpedo Boat (T22-T36)

Speed 7”
Turning 3
Target 6+
Armour 2+
Damage 3/1
Crew 8/3
Special Trails: Agile, Radar

Weapon / Range / AD / DD / Special

Secondary Armament / 8” / 1 / 1 / Weak
Port / Starboard Torpedoes / 10” / 3 / 3 / AP
AAA / 5” / 1 / - /
Depth Charges / 3” / 4 / 2 / Slow loading

Option: The machinery of the German T boats is often described as "unreliable" so I'd suggest rolling a d6 at the start of each game for each Type 35, 37 or 39 ship; on a roll of 5 or 6 the maximum speed of the ship is reduced by 1, on a 6 it is reduced by 2.

IMO the torpedo boats are overstated. Most were small, with almost no armour and a single hit from any naval gun (probably 4", but definitely 6" or above - i.e. secondary weapons in game terms) and they were just match wood. Max 1 hit 1 crew, 1+ armour (gives them a slight chace against weak guns).

The small ones were 1100 tons, the larger ones over 1700, which puts them (displacementwise) not far off fleet destroyers. It would take more than a "single hit" to disable them (critical hits notwithstanding)

I think people are thinking about different ships here. The E-boat (or S-boot as the Germans called them) were like the US PT boat and British MTB. But the Germans also had several classes of "Torpedo Boat", built before the war which were basically small destroyers and which I believe are the intended subject of this thread and DM's comments.

Spot on :)

On a side note the French navy have called their destroyer torpedo boat and counter-torpedo boat until the end of WWII.
