I'm going to start running Secrets of the Ancients soon (doesn't look like I'll need to do much converting to 2e), so I've started reading through it and the most stand-out feature I noticed is the "how to play" notes for a few significant NPCs. For instance, for Pallod Norrim:
This is fantastic, especially for a new and inexperienced GM like me. I'm actually wondering if there are some online resources I could use to help give life to all the random NPCs (that I'm probably generating automatically) by assigning them some suitable "acting" traits from a list. • Speak clearly but never actually say anything. Couch
everything in polite phrases and diplomatic vagueness.
Never say 'no' when you can say 'not at this time'; never
say 'yes' when you can say 'I shall certainly endeavour to
do so, circumstances permitting'.
• Never get angry or raise your voice, unless you are exerting
your authority.
• Stroke your moustache thoughtfully.
• Look straight at the person you are talking too. Keep your
shoulders squared and your back straight.
