Gaim - painted by WereRogue

I'm still not sure I like the scheme I chose here. I wanted a different scheme for the Queenships than for the regular ships, but I'm still just not "feeling" this.

Since, I've thought about a metallic, glossy black w/ bright red (ala Black Widows or fire ants), and had someone suggest a yellow-green like a preying mantis.

I'm open, of course, to thoughts and comments.

I likem the blue ones for sure, not to keen on the red, but then I think red on spaceships needs black jagedy lines through it :-)

Use a flat color, say red, then drybrush it. Afterwards apply some brush on gloss varnish to those areas. It ends up looking like ceramic if done right.

Both colour sets look good, though that could have something to do with a good artist. If you want to go for a similar colour scheme to that of a specific insect I'd choose a hive insect (considering the Gaim's hive nature) like the fire ants you mentioned and base the colour scheme on the insects actual patterning; adapting it to suit the ship in question of course. But definitely good work so far, the fleet as a whole should look great when it's done.

Thanks for all the great comments, guys! They've convinced me, at least, to leave the Gaim as they are now. The next ship I pick up, I'll work on another scheme and see which one wins out.

you could paint each ship class differently, color coordinate their roles in the hive. Im very interested in this thread as I think I will get into Acta via the Gaim.

The metal (silver) needs to be inked unless the flash is making it shiny

Yeah, it's the flash. The metal has been double inked to ensure proper coverage, but the crappy camera I use never fails to make my models look all shiny. :( And I don't mean that in the "Firefly" way, either.

Thanks for all the comments, though. :D

I don't really like any of them, but that may be because of the camera. Just had a similar situation with some painted CBT models I bought off a guy. Didn't look good online, look amazing in person...
