Followup on building two like forces

Here's a followup on a post I did earlier:

I have 40 Warriors and 32 MI. Then I went hog wild, bought Grizzly and Cougar suits to have a standing army on its own right. Then I bought an ape suit. and 2 CHAS. Oh, and a box of LAMI (Light Armor Mobile Infantry). I still want to get 2 chickenhawks, as well as another ape.

On the Arachnid side, I was getting 2 tankers, until I noticed that I'd need at least 2000 points to field 2 of them (Priority level 2). So, I am in the market for 1 tanker and a box of FireFries, then place another order for a Plasma Bug and another box of FireFries. I am looking at getting a Rippler swarm, would one be enough? Is the Plasma Bug worth its weight?

I know I have way too many MI points to field it all in one go. But, I want to build a bug army that will equal points/ability of a fieldable MI army that will not break the bank. The armies will be used in games with my kids and nephews, so I am not looking at killer tourney lists.

So in effect, I am asking for help in assembling a bug list. Thank you all for the advice on the last thread, I am looking for clarification on what I should pick before I do purchasing. I am thinking a Bug army that has numbers (40 warriors), but can also have a bit of fire support to counter the firepower that the MI will dish out.

forgive me mods trying to keep these pts vague

i figured out that with your 40 warrior you should have 400 pts left too get a tanker bug and a few tunnel extras OR a brain bug and a couple of tunnel extras

which i thinks puts your force at priority 2, 1000 pts

[which if i' right lets your MI force take Atomic weapons (if both armies are equal pts)]

i think my plan is to bulk out the bugs first then get more MI

reckon i'll get that bug mega swarm 18 warrior bugs [20 boxed set + 18 mega swarm = 38] and a tanker bug. 38 warriors a tanker and some tunnel extras

i still would like to know if 3 x 5 man MI Power suit trooper squads plus one Leiutenant make up 1 or 2 platoons

Well First things first - if you want a big fielding army, id actually go with 60 Warriors, or 3 boxes of 18 which would be 54 and a 1 smaller box of 6.

one Brain is fine, you might want 2 tankers, but more importantly than 2 of any of the big bugs will be a good stock (up to 9) of Hoppers...

If there will be air units in the games you play than a bug player needs Ripplers (sold in 9 a pop) or a Plasma Bug - The plasma bug is especially all around devastating.

60 Warriors with a cheapening Downgrade = 600 points
Brain = 300
Plasma = 300
Tanker = 250
3 Hoppers = 150

400 Points for Ripplers, more tankers, more hoppers, tunnels or anything else. =

2000

PS- its one platoon, but you need an officer per 2 squads, so you need a NCO or Sicon Agent (or so long as its a 2000 point game, have 4 squads and 2 LTS and have 2 Platoons)

Youd be selling yourself short if you didnt, as they provide an extra action for any one unit of your army to use each round, as well as having a plethora of its own psychic attacks available

!%^!#&^@&'

My plans are placed on temporary hold. I was pulled over on the way home from the office, a little ticket of $107.50 for a non-sticking inspection sticker.

Yup, end of the month quotas.

Damn.

I may be able to squeeze a tanker and maybe a box of Firefries until next pay check though.....

Ripplers are a good buy. If your opponent hasn't brought any AA weapons you can keep them at Loiter speed and he can't hit them !

The Plasma Bug is really lethal (and very easy to build too). Only problems are that it's artillery fire can sometimes kill as many of your units as your foes if you're unlucky with the dice and it has a large minimum range and relatively small fire arc. Great if you're attacking a fixed position or are expecting TAC Fighters or Dropships (and Capsules).

A Brain Bug is a must. The extra action can be a game-winner on it's own, never mind the free 150 pts of psychic talents. Last big game I played I had a Tanker surface next to an MI Squad, crush a M9 and roast the survivors all in one turn.
