Fleet Selection for campaigns

We have just started choosing fleets for a campaign. I am wanting to play Earth Alliance I was told by your token rule master that I could only choose ships from the crusade era is this true? I would imagine that I could choose any from the pervious eras. If not this limits the choice of ships drastically for Earth Alliance.

what campaign? the Mongoose weekend? Or your own?

for the mongoose weekend, you choose crusade EA ships, as the weekend is set in that time. For a house camapign, then technically all EA fleets are available, but should still be chosen from one of the three era's rather than mixed. And trust me, you think crusade EA is restricted, have you looked at the Vorlons and shadow fleet lists?

I thought all eras of EA were allowed in the campaign weekend to represent mothballed fleets. Could be wrong though.

If its a house campaign, then everything Hiff said, plus it depends on whether the campaign master has chosen to set in a specific time frame, thus limiting you to crusade era.

But to be honest, with crusade era you get all the best bits of the third age, like omegas and hyperions and poseidon and explorer, plus all the nice new ships like marathon, apollo, delphi, chronos, myrmidon.

And better fleet initiative.

I haven't really red the campaign rules through properly... I am Drakh, what do rules matter to me ;-)

If your campaign is not using ISD's then you must select one EA era and choose all ships from that. It can be any of the 3. If you were allowed to use ships from older fleets then it would be pointless having 3 fleets, everyone would just use Crusade and select all older ships, for the initiative bonus.

If your campaign is set in a specific year, then you must select the appropriate EA fleet for that year, and only select ships from that fleet. Choosing older ships is not allowed.

Ea does lose most of the ships from the Early era in the Minbari war... so just not enough of those left to maintain them.

Third age gets pretty mauled at the Drahk invasion... so again... not many left...

Crusade, well their all shiny and new... why would you want the old ugly ships.

There is also one other point thousands and thousands of missiles.

In my campaign, I said EA can only have Crusade due to the presence of ISA . I'm not restricting the in service dates past that, to allow more flexibility, but EA can still call on a large number of ships.
