First two solo games

Nomad

Mongoose
As the title says.

So far just really trying out the rules mechanisms without thinking too much about tactics yet.

The first game pitted the Klingons with a D5W (IKV Channaq', aka Hunting Spear) and two F5s (Knife and Axe) against a Tholian cruiser (Arrgk) and two destroyers (Chert and Obsidian), 385 points against 380. I used the Rescue mission, with a logical choice of target.

The Tholians started by turning flank-on to absorb Klingon drones with their Web snares;

Which was probably over-reacting to a minor threat. The battle soon devolved into a dogfight between very maneuverable ships. The Klingon heavy forward shielding combined with the very wide firing arcs - especially on the D5W's disruptors - gave them the edge. The Klingons concentrated on the destroyer Chert, shattering her shields. Note - when approaching the enemy, 'Reinforce Shields' SA is advisable. Initially the Tholians concentrated their fire on Knife, which forced her to pull out of the fight when her shields failed. An overloaded volley from Axe then destroyed Chert. However, as the two cruisers then went head-to head,

Obsidian moved behind Spear and collapsed her shields at their weakest point. Spear fell to Arrgk's phasers and disruptors, although the Tholian cruiser was badly damaged herself. She lasted about two more turns, and the end game saw Obsidian backing away from the two vengeful Klingon frigates...she didn't make it. Klingon victory.

The second game had a Federation CA pursued into a nebula by an inexplicably hostile Federation NCL in a possibly recognisable scenario.

(There was going to be a photo here, but I'd switched to the phone camera and the file is *massive* and too big to post without messing up the thread. I'll try to resize it.

It looked quite similar to this;

).

This game lasted nine turns, at the end of which each ship had sustained exactly one point of damage and not one Photon Torpedo had been fired by either side. The NCL's greater turn rate gave her the advantage, but with only one opponent it proved easy for either ship to avoid the other's lethal envelope. Giving the Ent - er, the Fed CA - a Hero captain (two SA per turn) and an elite crew might have been more historical, or at least, more cinematic.

(A third, Klingon vs Kzinti, game may get written up later, as those photos will need resizing too).
