Finally got my book

Mongoose
Well my copy of Armageddon finally arrived and personally I think it delivers exactly what Monogoose promised, a rules update but not a huge rewrite and a few changes to some ships.

I like the stealth change more than I thought I would (its slightly more of a change than Id gathered from the forums) and I actually really like the fighter changes. I LOVE the jump engine changes :D.

As for the shadows, vorlons and ancients, very very nice.

To those who say 'I wont buy the book cos theres no point as most of its on the forums anyway' I must say thats something of lame attitude. If noone bought the book there wouldnt BE anything on the forums about them....

My only real points of contention are:

1) The Saggitarius - which is being deal with apparently :)

2) The Warlock should have been left at War (hopefully it will be put back in 2nd Ed)

3) The new miniatures for the most part (especially the ISA and Brakirri/Abai ones) are something of a dissapointment still, but thats got little to do with the book and I simply wont buy them :P

4) Typoes. I cant say as Ive noticed it being as bad as it was in SFoS but Im still a bit dissapointed here.

BUT all in all, despite the flak mongoose have taken about the book I for my part quite like it!

I view my attitude not to buy the book as cost effective, and not lame!
If the book had been a nice paper back for a fiver, I would have bought it!
but I understand your point. Instead however I bought a box of chronos and delphis!

Good points, as others have said Mongoose could have sold the FAQ, Earth Alliance, etc sections of Armaggedon as seperate soft back books... which would have ended up costing the same. I personally prefer having it all in one book that is hard back.

Yes I see where your coming from Hiff (and may I congratulate you on your lovely box of Chrnoses, the bestest little ship in the galaxy :P)

I personally prefer having it all in a nice shiny hardback and can happily afford the £15 at the moment but there plenty of times between jobs etc where Id sooner shoot myself than spend £15 on a book and would far prefer £5 supplements. Personally, as GWish as it my seem I think it would be really great if mongoose released fleet books for each race (just cheap paperback ones though they could put more fluff, special characters, special scenarios etc in each one) of course then you have the age old problem of 'codex creep' but if done carefully it can work. (and imho the Dilgar and Drakh books were pretty well balanced (with the possible SLIGHT exception of the Tagrath which is verging on extreme 'sick and wrongness' (though I actually think its not THAT bad (of course if you get a full pentacon of them unload into you but then having a full 6 ship squadron of Chronos unload into you, I would suggest, or Tigaras, etc would probably be just about as evil :P)

I would really like to see a second ed that puts ALL fleets in one book, with all relevant updates. I would buy that, It's a pain having sevweral books to check if you are playing drakh or Dilgar.
How about mongoose looking at a modular system? where you can add new pages as they are released.

today, mongoose releases the historical Markeb fleet, this slots betwen pages X+Y of your second edition modular system etc?! shiny folder, laminated punched pages just slot in when new things happen or changes occur?!

That is the plan! Basically, 2e will consist of a (quite small) rules book and a seperate fleet book. The idea is that, once a year, we will release on hardback containing all the tweaks and new ships we have introduced via S&P (and no doubt a few surprises!) throughout the previous year.

So, once you have the two main books, you need only get one book a year to keep completely up to date. It also gives us the option, for example, to release a replacement fleet book without having to launch a whole new edition.

Overall, this method should be fairly light on your wallets (one books a year), while keeping the information in as few places as possible.

That's great news, and something I can imagine a lot of the forum members looking forward to. One question, are there any plans to replace some of the older molds for some of the ships?

An excellent modular information design! Designed, apparently, to incorporate evolutionary balance mechanics. This is exactly the solution needed -- brilliant.
