if i remember correctly fighters can never do anything to ships so in a game where one fleet has bought fighter support and the other side didnt doesnt this seem like the side who bought support is being screwed?

Yes. But in a game where only one side bought aircraft, and they're all bombers, the other side is screwed...

not really because you have AA fire to deal with them. fighters without enemy aircraft are just wasted.

Simple solution. . . don't use aircraft! Just buy some bad-ass AA ships to provide a fire umbrella for the fleet!

Of course the side with fighters could make pretty quick work spotter planes aircraft, giving them a nice edge in ititiative rolls.

I have spent a fair bit of thought during battles in avoiding rampaging fighters with my spotter aircraft all over the place trying to put distance between them and those damnable 109s!
