Fighter losses on campaign

for non-carrier ships how does one replenish the lost fighters?

Do i have to buy a wing and split them up to replenish the ships?

Can i split up the fighters on a carrier and then let the carrier fighters replenish *naturally* (at no cost) via the natural replenishment of fighters onboard carriers?

or something altogether different?

You buy them and split them up.

Carrier regeneration happens BEFORE you can transfer fighters.

which is why quite a few people will buy a carrier they have no intention of using in the campaign to act as a 'repair centre' for their fleet's fighter wings...
