Ferocious Attack

• I have a rule question (perhaps it has already been answered so if someone knows where please let me know) about the Pirate Ferocious Attack.

• I'm not sure to understand well when it is possible to make it. It is written "in the first round" in the rules. But, if there is one surprise round before the first full round of combat, does it include the surprise round ? If the Pirate is surprised and can't do anything during a surprise round, can he still make a Ferocious attack during the first regular combat round ? Or did he "lost" the possibility of making a Ferocious attack because of the surprise ? Your thoughts ?

im pretty sure the ferocious attack happens in the first round he acts, whether he gets surprised or not because he doesnt have to act first to use the ferocious attack ability.

I play it a bit loose, and let them do it in the first round of melee combat in which the Pirate acts. Otherwise, often the pirates who are attacking ships (i.e., their regular line of work) will attack with bows or slings while the ships close, so they'd rarely get the chance to use this ability.

Thanks both! I play it like you Slaughterj, but I was not sure about it. I didn't post this question in the rulemasters forum because it seems there are more answers given here about Conan RPG than there.
