Faction Breakdown

Paladin

Mongoose
The promo pdf mentions that the EFTF are starting with the British but will eventually incorporate they French and Germans.

I'm curious is similar sub factions will will be represented in any of the others. In particular, on the US side. Is it really just going to be the USMC or with the Army, Navy, Air Force, etc. come into play?

Are there plans to have more than 4 factions long term?

i do believe that the USMC will be on there own, as is reflected in the real USMC, they are completely self sufficient and seperate from the other branches (with the exception of the navy)

i heard somewhere that an Army faction maybe coming out soon but i cant remember if that was rumor or fact.

as for airforce, that would probably be in the Army's army list, they are the ones who usually call for Airforce support, can you say Spectre gunship?

hmmmm, now navy would be really sexy to have, SEALs running around, Navy combat angineers (CBs), and beach landing parties (the guys who go in with the Marines in the first wave to guide the rest of the invasion force in, these guys are the unsung hers of the navy, they usually go in underfire).

Have you heard of the US Navy's new Expeditionary Warfare Combat Command?
It's going to cover CB's, Mobile Security, IBU's (harbor patrol), MIUW (coastal surveillance) , plus the new Civil Affairs Battalions, Riverine forces and Naval infantry Battalions.

The last two have potential in the game. The US Navy is reestablishing it's Riverine forces and taking the job back from the Marines freeing up men to go die somewhere else. The Naval infantry will work closely with Riverine forces. Last I heard the NI would be used for strikes on or near waterways.

Let's see..... Marines are just specialized assault troops who's sole purpose is to keep the door open with their bodies. They do depend on other arms of the military, since their air wing isn't as strong as the Air Force (you don't see any Marine A-10s, do you?), and their artillery isn't as good as the Army. And remember, they're not a real speperate branch of the military. They're a Corps within the Navy.

last time marines called in air force air support the A-10s fired on the Marines, killing about 12 IIRC ;) the Marines use Cobras, Harriers, and Hornets for close air support, i must say thats pretty powerful, if i recall they have the 8th(?) largest air force in the world, not to sure about that but i cant find anything on it.

their artillery doesn have to be as good, because as i recall you said they are assault troop who are menat to keep the door open with their bodies, therefore they dont have to havve super accurate arty if they are tasked with leelling a place ;)

yes they are a Corps within the navy, but are they not autonomous?

and hell ill even admit the Marines not taking the A-10 was a mistake, but they didnt take it because it cant multitask, so whatever, Marines loss :P

I can see the MEA having quite a few subfactions. Iranians, Saudis, Syrians, to name a few. I'm still hoping for an East-Asian alliance that would have several subfactions within.

Would a N. Korean army be part of the PLA or a new faction?

Are the Aussie's going to get any love anywhere?

What about Russia?

What about some South American or African mercenaries/militant groups?

I couldnt really see NK and china in the same force, though you could propably scrape by with similar rules. Anything about the north korean army would be pure guess work today though.

I'd dearly love to see Russians.

I don't know if doing Aussies would work because Mongoose would be at first glance doubling up on minis though with slight differences. For example, they'd be selling the Australian Abrams box next to the US Abrams box and the Australian SAS box next to the Brit SAS box. Don't get me wrong I'd love LOVE! to see Aussies but I don't know if our army is unique enough aside from our cam.

I think it's possible to build an Aussie force by picking the units you need from the Brits and US. You could also put some PLA troops in the back of a MEA Hilux and you have Indonesians for them to fight as well. Don't think I haven't thought about this, I started making up some Australian buildings when I saw the pic of that Abrams.

But Mongoose could make the rules for Aussies that you could print and a list of troops like this:

Aussie tank = use Abrams

Aussie SAS = use British SAS

etc...

I.e. there wouldn't be any new figs for aussies, but just the rules and suggestion of which figs to use.

Sure, the paintjobs of different factions might look odd with each other, but that is why we have paints and brushes!

So all Mongoose needs to provide for these kinds of forces is the rules really.

Col. Hammer....I'm there with you! To have an actual Aussie army list approved by Mongoose would be great, conversions can do the rest. They could even just put it up on the website for download.

Don't forget that within the timeframe of the rules the USMC will enjoy the benefits of a DDG-1000 "Zumwalt" class land atatck destroyer sitting off the coast lobbing in 155mm shells from their automatic Advanced Gun Systems.

Oh, and a heck of a lot of TLAM :) (although I assume they'll be outside the scope of the rules!)

Actually those might get killed in the budget process. The US Navy has been looking for a good reason to remain at the levels they currently are, most of them citing on the growth of the Chinese Navy. Likelyhood of one of these being available for naval gunfire is getting slimmer by the day.

The first couple should be safe at least. My colleagues in the project office in the US are pretty confident :)

Indeed they are, but there are enough US politicians whose survival depends on jobs at the yards concerned, so the first two ships should be OK, even if the class does get capped at that (DDG-1000 is rapidly becoming the TD for CGX). I think there may already be bits (equipment rather than structure so far) of DDG-1000 that you can go and kick now (I think I saw photos of the propulsion motors, but not sure whether these were prototypes of the ones that will actually go into Zumwalt.

Anyway, even if DDG-1000 hits the brakes there'll still be naval fires from the DDG-51s :P

Sorry for being a little off topic here, but is it me or does Hiro' seem to really disslike the Marines? Did one give you a swirly or something when you were a kid?

Also, I know Matt said that they have plans to do the US army in the future, but I was wondering what they're going to get for an IFV?

I'm an USAF brat, Quark.

As for the US Army...it'll probably be the Stryker, since we're stuck with that logicstical nightmare for a while....

They'd have to come in land too far, Quark. You know the Navy likes to keep them seperated from people with actual brains.
