So it seems that as soon as you run the apparatus from battery power built into the device, instead of using wires linked to an external power source that leak electromagnetic fields all over the place, the 'thrust' disappears.

The relevant research was in Germany and China and only published in local languages so far, so it hasn't been picked up in the English language press yet. But since it's a refutation it might not be anyway. Duds don't make for compelling headlines.

Thank you for posting it anyway; while it’s disappointing that we don’t have a new technology with which to explore the stars, at least we don’t have to rewrite the myriad of formulae in our brains, at least for the time being.
 
It has always been unlikely that the EM Drive was a major technological breakthrough, if only because it seemed to violate a couple of well-established principles.

It is likely that further experimental work may be required to validate these preliminary results, but this does seem to find an explanation for the measured thrust congruent with known scientific laws.

But I wouldn't be too hard on past investigators - it is important that we constantly test our assumptions and the EM Drive has identified an interesting edge case.
