Early Slaine & sometime Judge Dredd Artist Dies.

Standing-Stone

Banded Mongoose
Massimo Belardinelli has lost his battle with illness. Perhaps they were heart problems. I don't know.

I have read this off the 2000AD messageboard as it was put up there at 12 minutes past two in the afternoon on the thirteenth. ( Yesterday.)
Not exactly indication of his time of passing, but close enough.

Not that I know this the artist personnally. Can't really say it's my place that I know much about him except that I did admire his work. 'Bride of Crom' and few of the other earlier stories that he illustrated should be well remembered.

His work on Slaine did remind me of Frank Fazetta's similer work on Conan and only for all the best reasons.

Now a moment of silence.

I don't think he would ever be replaced.

He probably died of cancer. Battle with some (long) illness is usually an euphemism for this plague.

Should order a copy of 'Slaine'Warriors Dawn'. You will find practically all the work he did for Slaine in that one volume. Even if you are not a fan of comics, but fan of Slaine.

Though, he's also done work on early 'Judge Dredd' and 'Ace Trucking Co.

I don't really know this artist either, but I know his work.'

this makes me think I know very few comics. The last I read were the beautiful Aldebaran series from Leo and the great series from Serpieri (Druuna).

All you need is to order that book. Just abit shy of ten pounds if you live in England.

That book ' Warriors Dawn' should cover Slaine from the 'Time-Monster' right up until 'DragonHeist'

'Dragonheist' will be heading the second volume 'Slaine: Time Killer'.

For much the same price.

The perfect book for a person who's having problems tracking down
the earlier episodes of Slaine when he was just a wandering barbarian.

warriors dawn is the start both in dealing with slaines youth and being the first drawing so a great place to start any collection it also saves a bomb on trying to find the back copys 8)

That's what I mean!

Not that the those old progs would exactly cost a fortune, but it would still save you alot of trouble.

About this book being part of series of more books to come. I think you could buy this book and it would stand alone just as well as it would be the start for the rest of the series.

I would do the same with Conan's reprints by Dark Horse, instead of trying to buy all the 600's issues of previous comics.

makes even more sense for slaine who very rarley got a prog to himself so only bits of every issue are of intreast to us slaine heads 8)

Yeah, I like Slaine and after while of reading 2000AD. I learnt to like Judge Dredd and then the rest of the other characters as well.

So there was a time there where the whole comic was of interest to me.

Though, I still have a problem with some of the newer characters. They just don't make them like they used to.

Truly a sad time in the World of Slaine.

Thanks Massimo Belardinelli for the foundations you created in the Land of the Young.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
