Early EA Orestes stats, why so bad?

Man that thing seems a bit underpowered for a Battle level ship.

Why would you want to field one in an Early EA fleet, what are their strengths?

(About to buy two of them)

So it would seem, but I need Novas and Tigers anyway, a couple of Saggis and more Hyperions never hurt anyone. So I guess I'll look at the 2 Orestes minis as the freebies in the Early EA box set I'm looking at getting. It is a nice chunky model though.

Maybe you can also help with my Nova Fury question on my other thread Burger?

Man the torotha is definetly not bad. It can consistantly guarntee that it will deal 1 point of crew and 1 point of damage every turn....

erm, actually I've used the Orestes a couple of times now and it seemed to preform rather well (and surprisingly so). The ability to take lots of smaller support ships also is a boon for it. However you should endevour to keep its prey infront as it has fairly poor weapons in every other arc.

It's also the only hull 6 ships the Early EA have which makes it a must against races using pulse-type weapons and e-mines. I've used it pretty often against (mostly) Minbari and Drazi and it's always given a good account of itself. One of mine (EAS Thunderer if anyone cares  ) nailed 2 Sharlins over the course of the last EM War campaign I played(and even survived until the end, although the EA lost). Those side batteries are pretty nasty, never mind it's front weapons. It's main drawback is it's slow speed and poor turn rate. I've had games where they've only got off a couple of shots and then never get within range of anything for the rest of the battle (bloody Drazi   ).

Well it looks like I'm not going to buy any of them now, conserving funds and focussing on building a massive ISA fleet, but if I ever play EA early with counters, I'll be sure to try it out.
