Ducks. Live young or eggs ?

I recall from an old RQ book (river of cradles maybe?) that ducks carry live young like mammals. But this http://www.glorantha.com/greg/q-and-a/ducks.html indicates eggs. Is this just gregging, or are there any other sources on this ?

What do you guys use ?

It is just gregging.

All older sources claim that ducks bear living young.
When the question of living young or eggs arose anew in 1999 (?) Greg remembered incorrectly what was said before, and thought it would be more fun to have ducks eggs.
I go with ducks bearing living young, because that was what GAG (generally agreed Glorantha) said before Greg gregged it with the cited answer.

It used to be it was part of Yelm's curse on the Ducks that they had to bare live young.
Had't realised Greg had changed his mind again...

Perhaps a failed heroquest by a Duck champion to get his wings back has resulted in the Ducks laying eggs again... who knows :)

The important question is has anyone errata'd the Thunderbreath Gobbleguts Menu to include Duck Eggs yet?

There's a "Greg says" posting at the www.glorantha.com site about ducks from several years back. I'll have to check what the word about duck eggs is there. I'm guessing it's live young.

Nope. Eggs. Well, it makes sense. That's what birds do. Here's the link:

And before anyone asks - yes they do have teeth. How else are they going to keep their cigars from falling out of their mouth?

I never got that joke by the way. A beak is pretty hard. I wouldn't think a large duck's beak is that different from teeth when it comes to holding on to a cigar. The real problem is lips. Ducks have to either have a very flexible beak, or lips if they are going to be speaking human languages, or smoking a cigar.

What's with the cigar by the way? Duck humor from something I've missed, like Howard the Duck? I'd imagine a pipe would be more culturally appropriate.

It's a Howard the Duck thing - he always had a cigar in his mouth. Pipes are possibly more culturally appropriate but cigars are just more... macho.

And you need the teeth to hold the cigar so you don't have to take it out of your mouth when you're swearing at folk (such as the marines you're about to lead up the beach - see any one of many war movies.)

At the end of the day, not a great joke, but for me still part of Glorantha's charm.

Check out John Hughes' duck cults - HeroQuest rather than RQ.
