Drow Wars: Decanter of Endless Water and other subjects...

Hey Drow Wars DMs,

Did your characters find the Decanter of Endless Water in the Temple of Karad? and if so, are they using it? I've been continually impressed with the ways my pcs are using this one magic item. They use it more than just about anything else in their possession, except for their weapons.

Of course, they're drinking from it, washing with it, cleaning out the sewer system with it (a little bit) before they traipse through, put out fires, etc. But, the other night, they came up with a new an novel use. One of my players was affected by the Aboleth in the sewers below Crom Calmar, so he can't breathe air - so he's breathing with it!

Are there other objects from the game that your pcs are getting more than expected use out of?

On a different subject - Last weekend was DundraCon weekend in the bay area, and since I was going to be there, all of my players (for one of the DW games I run) showed up there, and we played in the open gaming section. Our purpose was dual - to have a great game, and to evangelize for Drow Wars. Hopefully some of the people who stopped to watch will pick up the campaign!

After almost a full year of gaming, my group is just about to enter the temple. We're very limited for time, so progress is slow.

I'm also gaming with newbies, and when they think to look for magic, they rarely come up with creative uses for it. I've always loved the decanter of Endless Water, myself. Better than duct tape in countless situations.

Mine didn't even find it, despite all the hints I dropped.

They're not really using many of the items (except their sig items). They use the orb from the temple whenever they go to a new country or town to locate the nearest node but they've only used it once to do an augury (when they were trying to work out what to do about the Myrrik eggs in Lost Athul).

Mine did. They also used it in the sewers to counteract the disease. Now they have it attached to the back of their boat and are using it as propulsion!

Excellent.

One of my PC suggested using the decanter to propell the boat the other night, but the other PCs didn't think it would work - so they didn't try!

Now, I'm a sailor as well as a DM - and I think having a little self propelled jet would lend some serious speed, (you know of the 3 miles per hour variety - serious speed is relative) but only if they try it.

They finally talked to the sailors about it last night - and the sailors fashioned the holder. It's working, but it's hard to tell when a ship that size is going a little faster - so It's working, but they don't know it is. They're on their way to see the elves.

My other group bested the freeking kraken. CR16. I'm floored. They just kept coming back at it. I did get to kill one of 'em, but honestly. Tenacity in group form - it was inspiring to watch. Course, their boat is sinking... rapidly.

much fun.

In hindsight - yes! but it didn't really seem necessary at the beginning.

It's OK, he's not dead, just defeated. He'll regenerate, then hunt them down. With such a high int, he knows that thes pesky little creatures stopped him from getting his reward, and He'll be annoyed!
