Lets hope this boosts interest in the Dredd RPG.

If 2000AD release a comic strip version of the film I presume that puts the characters and material into the Mongoose franchise ?

Sheesh, judge dredd movies without judge death are like batman movies without the joker...

Nah, Death is not a necessity. Dredd keeping his helmet on is far more important. In fact I have pretty high hopes for this flick after the disappointment of Stallone's version...

I'm also glad they're not rehashing old villains in the Dredd movie.
Just stick to keeping Dredd's helmet on. And keep him fascist.

I don't know why Dredd has to have a "Joker" or some other
constantly repeating villain that kills all the time & just comes
back over & over again, never dying. In Dredd's world, for the
most part, the villains stay dead. This is something that other
comic book writers should take note of, rather than bringing
back Magneto or Joker or whoever again & again & again. It
gets old & lacks creativity on the part of the writer.

That being said, the look & feel of the new Dredd movie sort
of reminds me of Brian Bolland's art work from the early 80s
(aka Judge Death, etc). But I think throwing too much of the
kitchen sink that is the Dredd universe (aliens, mutants, psionics,
etc). into a single movie would alienate the newbie audience.

Not come across anyone yet who has anything but praise for the movie after seeing it, even my lass who isn a gamer or reader on 2000AD.

Sitting down right now to catch the flick on the Ultra Screen in Wisconsin. Actually, been running one of the Con events we used to do for Mongoose in the lobby for the last few hours so all psyched for a bit of Lawgiver action....

No one has posted what they thought of the new movie. I for one thought it was a great action flick, good production value, good sound track, good acting (for an action movie), kept fairly close to the continuity of the original material, good script (again for an action movie.) i give it about a 8/10.

The only bad things I can say about the movie is 1) not enough advertising for it, 2) the release date was really poorly planned, it went up against some pretty stiff competition for first weekend box office takings. They say the break even point for a squeal is $50M in the US...I don't get this figure at all. They expect one market (albeit probably the largest one in the release schedule) to cover the entire cost of the movie before they will make a squeal?

Hypothetically, if this does occur is it possible to have new art work in any books that does come about? No disrespect to the comic artist, but the old Dredd comic art work in the original Dredd D20 rpg really did nothing for the look of the book, IMO. I think any further books could really benefit from either; 1) Pics from the new movie (probably not possible), 2) More artwork done in the style of the uni, Lawgiver and Lawmaster in the Traveller version, 3) artwork like that used in the 10 page digital comic showing Ma-Ma's background.

Unfortunately, this does not look to be the case. So, far the box office take (particularly in the US) is well below even the most pessimistic projections. I think world wide it might clear a profit, but from what has been said not enough for a sequel. With luck maybe DVD sales could push it over the edge, but things a looking bleak.
