Drakh listening post

Mongoose
Instead of sending scout vessels Drakh often grow small outposts on edges of systems that happen to draw their attention. Placed often deep within asteroid fields those outposts monitor all activities in system using passive sensors and keeping low profile.

I owuld say a Drakh listening post would have no crew, all automated with some form of AI in charge.

LBH

What? No bad guys to kill? ;)

Just an extrapolation of those organic pods that they gave the Centauri to uase on their ships in Season 5.

I thought that they used them on the ships so that there would be no knowledge of their use on Centauri Prime. A listening station would probably require someone for maintenance, analysis and security.

I was extrapolating the capabilities of the tech rather than the reasons for using it.

Of course. As an old intel/electronic warfare guy I was counting on the need for a sentient to render real time analysis and judgement.

Such analysis could be done elsewhere, data sent by some FTL means, no need to risk your analysts on the front lines.

LBH

Perhaps. But constant communication risks exposure of the station. You would use lower eschelon analysts to sift the wheat from the chaff and to decide where to focus your sensor assets. The unmanned assets would be much smaller and of limited capabilities, needing direction.

They could 'man' with a Keeper and send the info telepathically. Or send data in burst packets.

LBH

I'm not all that knowledgable about Drakh physiology but it seems to me that the keepers had no reach outside of that of their subjects. Also, I'm of the opinion that creating keepers is not a general ability of any or all Drakh.
