Downloadable Combat Sim

Obsidian

Mongoose
Been working on bringing the old combat sim back to life and I've put together a somewhat rough new version of the application. Nowhere near as complete as the one I did the first time around, but I'm starting from scratch here (darn HD crashes...) I'll be expanding it as time permits, but wanted to get the somewhat limited version out there for people to use/modify. Anyway, the files can be downloaded from

http://www.savefile.com/files/287066

You'll need to install the Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 in order for it to run.

The application is written in C# so if you want to mess with the source code to change/expand things you'll need a compiler. Thankfully, MS supplies one for free which you can download by going to http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualcsharp/.

Have fun :D

Future: install in PDA

Good idea. I was hoping to get to that at some point, but if anyone can get to it before me that would be great. It's part of the reason why I'm distributing the source code for all the whole thing. There are bound to be gaps in what I'm doing and allowing someone else to pick this up and run with it when I don't have time is what I'm really hoping for.

Found a bug with the program unfortunately. It doesn't include Solid hits in the totals that appear at the bottom of the page. Looks like I got it lost in the code for the GEGs. New version will be forthcoming that corrects the problem, but wanted to let people know about in case I can't get that fix uploaded soon.

Sory found on Other Bug Once you selected Double or triple damage button you can´t turn them of again. What i mean you have onle the choice dd or TD after you once click one of the choices.

Beside this its an Nice tool. Are you making a version for PDA? Please say yes.

Yeah that is a bit of a flaw in the program that I really should have thought to clear up before releasing it. I'm actually working on getting it so you can select the ship and the list of weapons appears for you to choose from.

Yep. That's certainly something that I'm working on getting done.

Its an perfect tool to see what an outcome woud be. also woud it be nice if you coud export the outcome to an list with an ad function for other attacks.

Thanks. It's a work in progress so there is lots of room for suggestions. Like I said, I'm working on getting it so that the list of weapons will show up and allow you to select which ones to fire and their order.

I like the Export idea, but I wonder if it is simpler to copy and paste the text into a text editor. Maybe if you had some more thoughts around what you would like it to do I can try to incorporate that into a future version.

I'd like to hear the explanation as well. The way I've always done twin-linked/concentrated beams is you reroll the first die if it misses, but if it hits you don't get to reroll any of the subsequent rolls.

Actually you're right but I was thinking along the lines that twin-linked re-rolled all dice as twin-linked isn't seen on beams...sorry for the confusion.

Well that's good to hear. There have been Twin-linked beams in the game. To my knowledge though, the Urik-hal from the original release was the only ship with a twin-linked beam.

And even when until now no Ship woud have it. It shows that the programm is even usefull in the future then.

What if the narn get an Beam energy cascade E-mine that twinlinked is?

I woud say as long the programms run and the results are correct, its an tool what no one shoud miss.
