d20 to runequest conversion

Hi everyone,

I was thinking there is so much cool stuff already out there for d20, and both D20 and MRQ are open gaming, so.............

I thought I'd start a tread on converting stuff from D20 to MRQ
anyhow,

Here is my take on SIZ

Fine & Dimunitive: SiZ: 1
Tiny: Siz: 2
Small: Siz: 3-4
Medium: Siz: 5-20
Large: Siz: 21-40
huge: Siz: 41-89
Gargantuan: Siz: 90-110
Colossal: Siz 110+

the other attributes transfer on a 1 to 1 basis with Pow and Wis marrying up.

the Ap of a location is the armour bonus +1 if the natural armour is less than 6 otherwise it's just the armour bonus/natual armour.

well that's it for now, what does evryone else think?

Interesting. Does seem to work. Thank you.
thanks mate, the part that concerns me is the armour, the two systems seem to diverge quite a bit there. but I've worked on the size chart quite a bit, I guess the next step is coming up with what the dice rolls would be for those numbers

Not to sound discouraging, but any "system to system" conversions tend to find shaky points, because the numbers dont mean the same.

Armour class in D&D is a mixture of magical defense, dodging and physical armour, whereas dodging and armour are separate entities in RQ.

You're better off figuring reasonable equivalents for a particular item or creature.

Your right, it would prolly be a better approach to drop the AC from d20 altogether, then re-calculate AP dodge for MRQ based on what is reasonable.

It's not discouraging mate, a monster/race is more than a pile of numbers, but as a guide, I feal it's good to have numbers to refence to.

I'm working on a conversion of Iron Kingdoms to Runequest. It's slow, because real life keeps interrupting me. I've been meaning to attack the concept of classes for the longest time, but still am working on the birth tables

I'll keep the forum informed. Some interesting things have already happened to classes: the Sorcerer "class" just disappeared, and "Shaman" and "Antidruid" occupations "naturally" appeared in the Runequest world.

The biggest dilemmas I've been running into are how to interprete the classes in a classless environment, and how far to go to emulate D&D class abilities. (I've decided, for example, to allow for a Rage skill as a "Kharma" skill, but to make that very rare, only for those warriors who respect and venerate the ancient traditions.)

As for size, I just figure out the weight or volume of a monster, and then use my Size/Weight-Volume table to convert.

Most feats work as advanced skills. Eventually I'll start converting some characters over and see what they look like. My sorcerer/wizard/ranger should look better after the conversion.

Good luck and keep us informed.
