crit wording...

hey everyone,

had a question come up in a game recently. there is a crit that limits you to shooting one weapon system (or maybe one system per arc, but I believe it was just one system), now, does each individual weapons line in the ships description count as a seperate system, or is it based on the type of weapon.

IE: the WS carier has molecular pulsars in all 4 arcs, and beams in the front arc. all told it has 5 weapons lines in its description (am I missing missiles ? doesnt matter..). say I get the crit that limits me to one weapon system firing per turn. does that mean that I can fire 1 arc of pulsars or all arcs because they are all of the same weapon type.

I would assume it meant I could fire one arc. but it was argued the other way.

if you lose the ability to fire a weapon from 1 arc, the arc is determined randomly. Not that if you lose foreward arc you may still shoot boresight weapons - they're different arcs! same applies to aft, anf turret weapons as well.
If you can only fire 1 weapon system per arc, then the carrier would be mostly unaffected except for its foreward arc which has 2 systems as you say. you could choose which one to fire, and it could change from turn to turn.

sorry I dont have my book with me. maybe I worded it wrong. I believe the crit allows you to fire only one weapon system period. now would all the weapons of the same name be considered the same system (which is what my opponent argued) or is each weapon entry a different weapon system ?

dont think theres a crit that does that, being skeletoned does though. can fire one weapon period which means one weapon out of one arc only, not all the same type.

Simply put each weapon group listed is a seperate weapon system regardless of their names or arcs. For example the GQuan has 2 lines in the forward arc called Energy Mines with identical stats, but these are still 2 seperate weapon systems and it can only use one if skeleton crewed.

Each weapon 'lne' is a seperate system.

That means the Hyperion Heavy Cruiser has 7 fire arcs?

Yup. Hope you have a D7 handy when you lose a random one

The book suggests a D8 or D10 if you have more arcs, although the maximum possible is 7. So use a D8, and re-roll 8's.
