Cpt Kremmens purple Drazi pics

Guys,

As I messed up on the 11th, I wanted to show you what you would be missing. Not sure I have done the pictures properly in the forum?

I have 2 Vree saucers, one not based and one temporarily gone missing when I cleared up my painting table!

What do you think?

I have been doing a lot of painting recently, so put in a pic of my repainted shadows too.

They look great!

How did you do the propulsion units on the Drazi?

Several layers of yellow and then just paint on red lines.

I had lots of inspiration off of this forum. Saw the black and white drazi gun barrels aomewhere and copied them as they looked so cool.

Had my shadows painted a different way but saw someone painted theirs this way in this forum, loved it so repainted mine.

I am quite pleased with the tiny fighters, particularly the 6 on a base ones, those are well diddy, and I really liked the way they came out.

I found one coat of white, then one coat of yellow, then red lines has good results. Yellow seems to be a bit watery (maybe it's just my pot?) and needs a white base.

I know what you mean, yellow doesn't cover well. I read in a book once that if you have a watery colour that doesn't cover well mix in some white, it's apparently the most opaque colour? So I use yellow mixed with white, and then a rather nice reddy yellow over the top.

The Drazi fighters are all tiny mongoose fighters, bought specially for the 11th November

The shadow fighters are old AOG ones, I don't intend to use the shadows for tournament, just custom scenarios.

I have just today finished painting my Vorlons, only 2 transports and 2 destroyers, but I will try and do a pic over the weekend.

Repainted my entire Narn fleet to "Bone" colour after seeing the bone fleets at the last tournament.

Finished a very large Minbari fleet, and painted some extra Centauri.

Have I been a busy bee or what!!

Are you miffed per chance? Thought I'd quote it for you just in case anyone missed :)

Great painting, my Shadows look rather bland (well black) in comparison

That is partly true, yes. But not an ideal solution as it leaves a very flat yellow. The secret to doing good yellows over a black undercoat is, believe it or not 'flesh'.
Basically wherever you want to paint yellow, begin with a nice dark bronzed flesh colour and highlight it up exactly as if you were higghlighting flesh. In other words work through your pale and palid flesh mixes. once done, the final step is to apply a thin wash of yellow ink over the top. What you will get is a beautifully blended rich yellow. I have used this method for literally years to good result. It not only looks a lot more natural than straight yellow paint, it has a richer depth to it as well.
The depth and variety of the yellow can be controlled by the flesh colours you use. Use darker flesh tones and yellow ink you get a deep golden orange yellow. Use pale palid tones and ink you get a soft light lemondrop yellow.
Try it, you'll be surprised :)

Carl

BTW: The Drazi look great Kremmen, it's a shame about the 11th, I would have loved to see them in the flesh. Kudos.

Sounds a strange way to do yellow. Not something I would ever have thought of on my own. I'll give it a try. I spend a lot of time picking up tricks and tips from people. Believe it or not I have no artistic ability at all, my ships are the result of years of careful tricks and tips that anyone could do.
