Corruption for non-sorcerers

How does a nonsorcerer earn Corruption? Can he earn Corruption? If I wanted to give players Corruption how should I go about doing that if they aren't sorcerers?

The methods of earning corruption are pretty specific. See page 340 of AE for cursed treasure. Have sex with someone with the Debaucher feat (from Scrolls of Skelos, page 28-29). Having peaceful and helpful relations with a demon or Corrupt (10+ points of Corruption) sorcerer will also force a Corruption save (page 190, Corruption Effects Table, AE).

As for eating babies, while that is vile, it does not force a Corruption save. Darfari, for example, don't even consider it all that vile...

Ignore the looting "corruption" rules offered in Free Companies. Ian Sturrock established the conditions for corruption in the AE rules and Scrolls of Skelos, and FC goes against those rules.

I absolutely disagree about this concept.
This was previously dicussed when 'Free companions" came out and according to the rules, the characters committing mass atrocities would be subject to corruption checks.
I think it was the general understanding amongst conan devotees, that this concept was not in-line with howards visions.
Lets take it to the extreme: so if we have a a bunch of Darfuri barbarians will they get the major physical attributes of corruption such as claws, horns, and what-not, just by practising their dietary habits? Oh, I think not, Corruption was made for supernatural encounters, not garden variety savagery. So put that baby on the grill and have some 'baby back ribs' cuz u will not be growing horns or scales anytime soon.

Ì use the stipulations to the letter: Make a save versus corruption when exposed to emons or evil places/atrifacts.

Thing is, it's WAY easier for non-spellcasters to pass that save.

8)

also the fact is once you become 'detached' which is like 5 corruption points you no longer gain them for doing your standard atrocities its pretty much only getting more corrupt from dealing with demons and other really corrupt individuals.

Cool, thanks guys for the input. It helps. In the world of Conan where survival and necessary actions can be misstrued with atrocity, only the most corrupting influences such as demons and corrupted items should cause corruption.

Isn't that pretty much what I said? Are you disagreeing with me, or the poster in front of me?

Also check out this old thread: link
It's a long thread with some other stuff discussed as well I think, but a lot of insightful things were said about Corruption (especially by Turim, IMHO).

Yeah, that stuff was pretty problematic, as it is not like immoral looters are really going to go insane, develop cloven feet, etc.

Thanks again guys. All the help helps (if that makes any sense, sorry writing this on lack of sleep).

Also, Vincent, you are probably the only author on RPG games thatt actually gets on the forums and answers the gamer's questions. My steel cap is off to you. :)

If you aren't the only one, then you are probably one of the coolest then. My gamers haven't even started Conan yet and they already are excited about it, find the books, system and setting awesome, and hold you in awe.

Are you really Asura?

Nope, take a look at when your post was posted and when mine was. I was writing my response when you wrote and posted yours. I was surprised to see your post hit with the same conceptual arguments as mine. I suppose great minds think alike.

Cheers Mate.

That reminds me of an old Jim Croche song I haven't hear in a whihle:

You don't pull on Superman's cape,
you don't spit into the wind,
you don't fool around
with the ol'Lone Ranger
and you don't mess around with VincentDarlage!!!!

lol

could be wrong as havent got the books with me but cannot a temptress be corrupted by being to closly linked to evil wizards and strange cults :?

Sorry for necromancering the thread...but I thought to mention how I've handled corruption. I solved the conflict between supernatural corruption vs Free Companies looting rules by adding a cap to corruption acquirable due mundane means. Simply, doing mundane atrocities, such as putting a whole town a sword and raping the corpses, may only net total worth of four points of corruption. To raise higher than that four points requires supernatural corruption.

Likewise, the will saves to resist mundane corruption are pretty low. For example, rape leading in to death of the victim would be around DC13 or so. A first level character with code of honor and faith will likely succeed in that easy enough. This portrays the way a character with strong religious convictions and belief in his own righteousness (through code of honor) may very well justify all kind of deeds to himself.

I chose four points of corruption as the mundane corruption cap, because I think it fits the description well. I haven't thought about whether I'd make a character with four corruption points still roll against insanity when committing atrocities, even if there was no chance of gaining further corruption points.

The logic behind this is to add a darker, more realistic tone to the game. I think it is quite realistic for a veteran pirate of 20 years of marauding to be corrupted - and most likely have a few mental problems as well, such as having sadistic delusions about women ("those zingaran bitches, they want me to hurt them"). With realistic, I mean the way I understand low levels of corruption (1-4) - as dying empathy for the rest of humankind, turning in to a sociopath through violence.
