Convoy Scenarios

Gents,

Has anyone played the convoy duty scenario? If you look at the set up and forces involved, a merchantmen moves either 1” or 3” per turn depending on which ones you take. With 48” between the deployment zone and the victory exist point that means somewhere between 16 to 48 turns. Even if you go at flank speed you still have minimum of 12 turns, probably more.

These times seem unrealistic IMO. The games we have had last no where near these numbers of turns. The convoy vessels would have little chance of exiting the table. What are other players experiences with this type of game?

The Supply Ships scenario has the defender setting up in a 12” x 24” box. The victory conditions indicate the withdrawing of civilian ships as a loss. So does this mean it is ‘circle around the wagons’ stuff? Does the convoy sit in this box and its protecting ships attempts to fight off enemy attackers? Is that the idea?

Can the designers of these scenarios give some indication of how these games play out?

Cheers
