Maybe I'm a bit daft, having just bought the book, but I was wondering if there were any conversion guidelines for taking ye olde DnD3.0+ or COCD20 Monsters and porting them into Conan?
None that I know of except your own common sense. . . DV/DR are the trickiest issues to address. I would choose a Dodge and Parry progression that makes the most sense for the creature and apply it's HD to it. Then consider natural armor bonuses as DR.
Just do what makes sense for your campaign. Most importantly though remember that the role of monsters is to terrify and quite possibly kill your players. The Hyborean age was not full of goblins and trolls and if mosters become common place you will rob your campaign of its uniqueness.
Oh I agree, but certain D20 monsters definetly match the flavor in Conan a great deal, also I'm rather interested in converting Dire Beasts of various flavors, etc, etc.
I'm really lazy and dont want to do all this myself, that's why I was wondering if there were any conversion guidelines put out there yet.
In particular, the Frost Worm from the Monster Manual seems to be pulled directly from "Lair of the Ice Worm". I plan to have my PC's encounter this little lovely in the future, but first I have to get them out of Zamora, where they have taken up residence in Shadizar.
Heh - thats easy, in the spirit of REH, you just start the next game with "Nobody can remember why you thought it was a good idea to leave Zamora, but you have been in *the land of the GMs choice* long enough for the money to run out and it is time to look for work...
As monsters are all 8 HD creatures just cross index the #of HD (level) with the 8HD column to get the Natural DV bonus.
This seems to get me very close on 80% of all animals and monsters. One thing on the chart that should be changed is at 1st lvl the 8HD modifier should be changed from +1 to 0.
Damage across the board seems to just do up one dice. i.e. D4 is now D6, D6 is now D8, and so on.
As for Animal DR...I don’t really see the pattern there. But I've not really look or plotted it out yet.
