Control Bugs Question

Stratos

Mongoose
Apparently no one in the Rulesmasters forum knows the answer so I'll post it here...

Control Bugs given victims from previous battles... do those Bugs use the stats (target / save / kill) of the victim (LAMI, Cap, etc) they possess or their own stats (3+ / -/5+ / 5+)?

Thanks!

According to the Arachnid Army book, an enemy figure 'captured' by the Control Bug comes under command of the Arachnid player as is at the time of capture - all weapons and armor the captured figure has now come under Arachnid control. I don't see why this would be any different for a previously captured enemy figure, so I think you would use the Target/Save/Kill of the captured figure.

Plus, in the second SST movie, the control bugs burrowed inside their victims to control them.

They use the victims stats, including whatever their basic weapon; Morita for MI, constrictor rifle for Skinnies.

Thanks Pete! That's what I thought but we had some discrepancies locally.

No problem, Stratos.

On a side note, some players in town use a house rule that the troopers can have their weapons upgraded. Picture an independent model with a javelin running around fighting for the bugs.

Personally, I think they are insane, but they said they wanted a second opinion.

Well, I think if you pay for the upgrades as you would standard MI (or Skinnies) then why not?! It would certainly bring dismay to the unsuspecting MI player... which IMO is the best thing ever! Kill all humans!

Because they are all independent! Can you imagine four or five PA troopers wandering around with Javelins, each of them an independent model? It is like a sniper on steroids!

Admittedly, allowing some might be an interesting idea for a scenario, but for general games I think that limiting it is better.

No, it's more like an interesting tactical option - have myself 1-men CAP squad of a Javelin, LAMI squad of single sniper and another LAMI squad of 2 Longbows and find it very usefull (they're survivors from re-played Klendathu campaign, refused to give them recruit reinforcements ^^)

Should the bug players want to try and pay extra for the upgrades I don't mind, after all it's an extra challenge ^_^

It could be interesting, but I can see people going overboard with it.

True. Fortunately you're still limited by the point value of your army. I seriously doubt anyone would spend more points on Extreme Victims rather than on truly valuable assets. And you are limited to 10 Control Bugs anyhow so it couldn't go too far - could it?

Let's see...

Ten control bugs = 100 points
Ten MI "victims" = 250 points
Ten Javelin upgrades = 400 points
One Brain to rule them all = 300 points

For a total of 1050 points. Still plenty for warriors and more. Is that far enough?

Brilliant! Freakin' BRILLIANT!

I'll have to talk my group into allowing upgrades!

makes you glad they cant have upgeades for ballance.

imagin control bugs in exo suits !!!

Well, you can't start the game with Control bugs in Exos... but it is plausible to win one during the course of the game!!

I like both dyssnowman's list and the idea of an exo upgrade - do remember, while eating up a whole lot of points off the swarm they give mere 10 models without too stunning survivability :D
So for me as an MI player it's all ok ^^

when i started fielding Exos, my bug playing friend was tempted to try some control bugs just in case he could get close enough to them to strike.
