Heyas, as the topic states im contemplating this game, but ive not really seen much on how the system works, though I have played SST.

I used to play Necromunda and Gorkamorka long long ago, and wonder how it compares to those games, I wasnt too keen on them - I felt the game was stagnant and that you spent more time record keeping with gang maintainance then actually playing.

So any insight into GoMC1 would be appreciated :)

Well, I can only help by saying what I like about the game, as I never played the other two. Hope this is still marginally helpful, though.

It's a pacey, skittish, dirty game, where a few simple mechanics nicely reflect the twitchy mentality of street gangs, and survivors gradually grow into impressive battlers. Gang-maintenance is pretty light, I reckon - the post-fight process of dishing out traits, turf and rep is very quick and the purchase of fancy guns has an immediate effect: bigger rep = bigger target for recriminations.

Because of simple theming, even players who're not familiar with the setting can get with the 'gangs are often associated with a block named after some crummy famous person and you can theme them amusingly and accordingly' bit. Theming generates more insults, insults make rivalry, and rivalry makes very funny, brutal games. If someone screws you over, there are scenarios and the Judge option which allow you fairly direct revenge. We enjoy the goading and failures as much as the victories.

I love it, and have managed to un-retire some old gamers with it.

Here's a thread where folks compare the games, if that helps:
