Confused About Jump Points

My local gaming club is getting ready to start a huge campaign. I'm playing the Centauri, and I was talking with a veteran of the game (I'm new to B5). I told him I was planning on buying plenty of ship with Jump Points in order to save my fleet when the battle went bad.

From my reading of the rules, a ship can jump out of combat the turn after another ship creates a jump point as long as the ship is in the forward arco f the jump point. The veteran player said that any ships jumping out of the game will have to actually move onto the jump point counter from the jump point counter's forward arc. I think he is right concerning Jump GATES, but wrong concerning Jump POINTS.

The rule says [B5ACTA, Revised. p. 20] : "During this time [while a Jump Point is open], any friendly ship MOVING INTO THE JUMP POINT'S FORWARD ARC (whether or not it has the Jump Point trait itself) will be removed from the battlefield as it enters hyperspace."

What's the answer? My strategy was going to be something like this: Have two cheaper, maneuverable ships (Corvans, or something), hang back in the battle and always keep a jump point open. Then, on any turn after the second turn of the battle, I can have my entire fleet jump out as long as the ships are in the forward arc of the jump point. If they have to move onto the counter, it could take 4-5 turns before they can get out of dodge... which means that there's really no point in having jump points to make a quick retreat....

Am I reading the rule wrong?

I think the rule is refering to the front arc of the actual counter for the jump point that is provided. Moving onto the counter's front arc to exit.

You do have to move onto the counter itself in order to jump out. In addition, jump points/gates do have facing, as ships do. So in order to jump out you must be approaching the jump point from it's forward 'facing' in order to exit the battlefield.
