[CONAN] Ruins in Cimmeria?

Can you think of any logical reason for a ruin of a citadel or a fort to be in Cimmeria? I don't think ancient Acheron stretched up that far, did it? My only thought is to place such a structure in the northeast of the kingdom, reasoning that it's an abandoned Hyperborean (and maybe ancient) structure.

Besides natural caves, I can't think of too many reasons to place "dungeons" in Cimmeria.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I guess in southwestern Cimmeria, too, I could have the PCs explore the ruins of Venarium. There may have been a few other Aquilonian forts down that way, too, of which Venarium was just the largest and most widely known because of the battle.

Hmmm, something I never thought about before.
I always pictured it kinda like the scottish highlands and was never touched by civilized men before, which makes ZERO sense, because the Cimmerians were direct descendants of the atlanteans. So reasonably I think there could be MORE than a few ruins.

I guess the level of intactness is the next question, with its brutal winters and Freeze/thaw weather any masonry would deteriorate faster elsewhere and the damp would rot any timber supports very quickly, so any ruins would probably piles of rubble, unless the hyperborean "cyclopean" stonework method were employed.
