Comms Disruptors - interceptable (or not!)

Da Boss

Mongoose
Hi All

Just played a game - My Centauri against Abbai fleet - interceptor land!!! Took most of the game to kill any ships on either side............anyway Comms disruptors

He fired them at my Maximus and not realising what he had fired (bit worried when he said it was 4 dice SAP!) I duely intercepted - when he said what they were - we had a discussion about it, as I am not sure if I could intercept or not? (nor did anyone else at the tournament) so I said I was happy they couldn't be intercepted and they took effect.

Is there an official word on this - ie Are they a interceptable weapon - or not? (presume it is clarified in 2nd E)

thanks :)

Can't give you an official answer, but I take Comms Disruptors to be a type of ECM which isn't actually "fired" at a ship and so can't be intercepted.

I don't think Iain or I are anywhere near official, but the weapon doesn't have any property that says it's not interceptable -- it's not a Mini-Beam (which would be the proper way to designate if it was), and Interceptors speak of blocking "attacks", of which the Comm Disruptor certainly is one.

Fluff-wise? It'd be strange to intercept. It might be even wierder that you can use it to soak interceptor dice. But I don't see anywhere where you can't do this.

I think we need a Mongoose for this one.

When this question was posed, I kind of figured it was like the Ion Cannon in The Empire Strikes Back, ie a big bolt of energy that disrupts a ship's systems and so could be intercepted.

I checked SFoS and it didn't give a description of how the tech worked, so it is kind of open to interpretation.

Drat, Greg, I was hoping you'd be the kind of guy with an answer!

C'est La Vie. (Maybe a clarification for a-product-which-will-not-be-named-to- avoid-thread-derailment?)

I was the person playing Da Boss and I was happy for him to intercept the comms disruptors. If they can be intercepted I assume they are a projectile of some sort . My next question is , if the ship with the comms disruptors manages to hit a target and is then destroyed do the effects of the comms disruptors still affect the target till the end of the next turn. I assume that the projectile disrupts the enemy ship and is independant of the ship that launched it.

That is correct - once hit, you are affected, no matter what happens to the attacking ship.

Nope: inteceptors intercept hits. Since GS don't roll ADs, they don't score hits. Therefore interceptors don't have anything to intercept.
