Clarifying splitting FAP

Poi

Mongoose
Here's an example which I'm not sure if it is legal or not.

5 point Raid

2 Skirmish
2 Skirmish
2 Skirmish
1 Skirmish, 2 Patrol
1 Skirmish, 2 Patrol

Note that if you split a Fleet Allocation Point into two, you may only split one of those down further.

It appears to meet this test, but it feels wrong. Too close to this:
2 Skirmish
2 Skirmish
2 Skirmish
2 Skirmish
2 Patrol, 2 Patrol
which isn't allowed by reading the rules, but achieves the same thing.

Official answers only please.

Doesn't deal with my point.

Perhaps if I restate the question.

Can I split all my Raid into Skirmish, and then split two of my Skirmish points (from separate Raid points) into Patrol?

Each point can be split using the rules on the thread Reaverman linked to.
So yes you can do that.

Oh and since you asked for official answers, here is one:

Was'nt that similar to the explanation I posted? :?

no you cant split them that way, you can only split one point further, matt has explained this. he said it sepcifically so you cant get 4 patrol for a raid. either 3 patrol for a raid, or 1 skirmish and 2 patrol.

raid= 2 skirmish

only one of these points may be split further

so raid =2 skirmish or 1 skirmish and 2 patrol or 3 patrol.

This is why we could do with Matt's view on this, as by moving where I make the split, I get more models on the table.

I've even taken a 5 FAP Raid fleet to an official Mongoose tourney with a fleet of 5 Skirmish ships and 10 Patrol ships. This is legal as I split each of the 5 FAPs into 1 Skirmish ship and 2 Patrol ships as you've pointed out.

Makes you wonder why they didn't just go 1:2:4:8, rather than sticking that anomalous 3 in the splits.

Actually, it's to encourage taking ships of different PLs, particularly with higher PL games. This system stops people taking 40 Patrol ships in a 5 FAP Battle game, but they can take the slightly more mixed 10 Patrol, 5 Skirmish and 5 Raid.
