civvie awards

there is a slew of awards for military character to get: MCUF, CR, CCR, etc...

but I noticed there is nothing for 'civilian' career...
no traveller version of nobel prises, grammies, peabodies, dicken's (heroic animals in WWII but how about one for Aliens service to the imperium?)...

I was thing of adding some for civilian careers like the way merc. add them for military...

anybody have good names for such awards?

In a friend's campaign a character can be awarded the ISOA (Imperial
Sunburst for Outstanding Achievement) in one of four classes (bronze,
silver, gold, iridium).

While any number of bronze ISOAs can be awarded by any Imperial
noble, the total numbers of silver, gold and iridium ISOAs are limited,
and only high nobles can award them (silver: Duke, gold: Archduke, iri-
dium: Emperor), and only when one of these awards has become "free"
again (= a previously awarded person has died).

There is only one iridium ISOA for each field of achievement (e.g. medi-
cine, physics, sculpture, dance ...), so there can be only one bearer of
the iridium ISOA for a certain field at a given time - somewhat like the
Royal Astronomer or similar posts in Britain.

Knighthoods and Noble titles.

The Imperium isn't really interlinked enough for things like Oscars and Grammies and Nobel Prizes to have much meaning. Well, maybe science prizes, but they'd be on a sector basis, maybe, or very post-facto.

There were some in T20, scientists certainly could get stuff. I'll check and see how wide ranging the naming of the awards for non-military types was.

It also sounds like something that you could add to the Events Table if you like. Maybe have them roll against their skill to receive an award with the Effect determining what type of award.

Seconding the mention of knighthoods. These are granted for "business leadership, remarkable achievement in the arts or sciences, or acts of heroism."

There are many different orders of knighthood: the Order of the Starship and Crown is the oldest and most senior with only 200 members (including the Emperor himself and the Archdukes) - members can put the letters KSC after their name, as well as 'Sir' before it if they have no other title. Each Archduke also heads an order, to which s/he can appoint new knights - the Order of Deneb, Order of Sol, Ancient Order of Vland, etc. Plus there are many other orders which are smaller or more restricted - so if you wanted to create an order limited to artists, or whatever, you could create it.

the merc book list military awards, I wanted to do the same for civvies...it adds color, especially when doing high society RPing.

'..let me introduce Dr. l'ling, Imperial Academy of Science Achievement award for gravitics...'

you can get recognition for service but not be knighted, real world example: paul mccartney, all kinds of grammies, gold records, kudos galoire but 30 years doiong his career before being knighted for his achievements.

OK T20 has 3 grades of Science award for Academics, that match the 3 grades of decoration for Military. Athletes and Entertainers also have the same. Im not sure if the names of the awards are 'Traveller' background or something they came up with for T20 (hence Im not listing the specific names here).

Essentially take the method that they use for generating such awards for Mercs and retrofit a few names suitable for the field and it should work for any career path.

Any number of countries have awards for civilians, I imagine wiki would pull a few out and you could cobble together some names that way.
