Changing Specialisations

If you mean being able to switch Specializations within a career when you go into a new Term? Yes. However, you also have to use the correct Survival/Advancement chart with the new Spec. Some of them are much different.

I had one character I was creating that was in the Imperium Navy Flight career(High Guard book) and he failed his survival that way. He would have survived if he had stayed in Astrogation instead of switching to Helm... ;)

Oh, perhaps you'd like more detail?

I know some that require an enlistment roll to change specialties within a career. Failure just leaves you in the previous specialty.

Personally, I rule that you don't get any rank skills for the characters current rank at the time specialties are changed. Otherwise, the decision to change specialties might be abused and used to gain skills instead of having a role playing reason for doing such. I usually won't blink if a player changes specialties as long as they have a role playing story for such. Example: Navy crew specialty character rolls Gunner (any) on the service skills table and gets transferred to Eng/Gun specialty on their next assignment.

The rules are pretty vague on this issue, so it is really up to the GM.

PERSONALLY, I have them roll for Enlistment again, if they pass - they can change specialty. If they fail, nothing happens except they have to stay where they are for the next term.

Other people just let characters switch specialties any time they want.
