Centauri Vs ISA

Itkovian

Mongoose
I'm asking this question on behalf of the local Centauri player as he is convinced that the ISA are unbeatable.

Mainly he is sure that once an ISA fleet gets behind his gunline (Usually a massed Beam Team but hey ho!) he is doomed and the only way he can win is by destroying them before they can do that.

Is he right? (I can't see it, as the only way a Whitestar CAN win is by outmanouvering so if a fleet could destroy them before they can do that they would be worthless)

Answers on a postcard...

For myself I'd have thought a layered deplyoment is the way to go.

yep layered deployment and keep back, the beam team outranges the whitestars. or take a tertius, that has some mean rear firepower. make sure all ships have backwards firepower, like the altarian, and the dargan. vorchats and corvans.

The Magnus is a awesome ship to use if you concerned with your rear arc and still terrific fwd firepower + fighter.

Layered defenses would be very nice. A Dargan might be good with its all around Particle arrays and two fighter flights.

Best defense I can see is to favor as low a PL as possible and use an inverted flying wedge. As soon as the ISA closes range turn the ships in to interlace their firing arcs trying to keep the W/S current position on the very edge of the arc to cover as much space that they would run through as possible. Once the W/S begin to filter past the line your ships should be in a reasonable facing to fold the line in on itself and continue to hammer them. I would probably favor an Altarian or Magnus for Point to make sure that if the W/S does get behind, he stays in range of the aft guns when he tries to use the Mol.Pulsar and some Centurions (maybe Prefect or *wince* Darkners) for the forward wings. Centurions have the mobility to keep tracking a wounded W/S better then most of the rest of the Centauri fleet and the 25" forward range means the W/S can't go screaming past without a penalty.

Anyone see any glaring flaws?

well i usually suggest dargans over centurions as they have pretty much the same forward firepower but dargans have rear guns too and 2 flights of fighters.

The only reasons I didn't favor the Dargan was because the Centurion has slightly higher damage rating and the Dargan aft guns are out ranged by the pulsars. But in order to account for the Nials the Dargan might be better over all.

I like the Centurion model! :P

Against the ISA you need agile ships (which the Centauri have in abundance) but also a good solid preferably all round Nova style ship which they lack
The Altarian is closest, the Balvarix and Tertius too

I actually try to use the Balvarian like a Nova, limited sucess. Also like the model. Really can't stand the Centurion, Haven pretty ugly and Sentri models seem a little small when compared to Raziks. It's lack of wings of the Centurion i don't like i think, the head i like. Altarian model lacks something i think but just can't put my finger on what i don't like, maybe the wings aren't Centauri like.
